Memory of September 2031
Ages:

Jisung 25, Lani 21 (almost 22)

Jisung walked into the cafe and his eyes instantly fell on Lani.

He smiled as he watched her sitting there, kicking her feet back and forth.

How was it possible to be this adorable?

He walked over and sat down beside her, gently kissing her cheek.

"Hi!" She said excitedly, nuzzling into his shoulder.

"Hi." He smiled. "Oooh. What is this?" He asked, looking at her drink.

"It's an apple crisp latte." She smiled back.

"Hmm. Interesting." He said, picking it up to take a sip.

She giggled. "Get your own. This is mine." She said, taking it back.

He made a grossed out face. "See. Now I know for sure that I don't want that." He said as he got up to go order his own drink.

When he came back, he seemed a bit nervous.

"What's wrong?" She asked quickly.

He took a sip of his coffee and tried not to smile. "Umm. Don't freak out, okay?"

"Okay..." she hummed nervously.

"I've been wanting to see what you thought of something." He said, letting out an accidental laugh.

"Why do you sound so sus?" She asked.

He snorted. Somehow what he was about to ask seemed comical, even to him.

He smiled really big and laughed again. "Okay. Just a minute, Imma calm down." He said, mostly to himself. "How do you feel about... Marriage?" He laughed.

"Like as a concept?" She asked.

"Yes. As a concept." He said.

"Well," she began, pushing up her glasses. "I like that you could be legally entitled to certain things just by signing a paper. It's a cool idea really. Somewhat like a business deal." She said seriously.

Jisung nodded his head. "Right. My thoughts exactly..." he lied.

"And, I think it has a profound meaning in a way. To be legally bound to another person. It makes you take that person more seriously when you make an actual dedication to them." She added.

"Right. That's actually closer to what I was thinking." Jisung said.

"Aaaaand. It could be good. You could be happy. But what if it wasn't, and you were forever miserable?" She asked.

"That's a good point." Jisung nodded.

"Like some of those people who just get told "this is who you'll marry." Like those really young girls being forced to marry old men. That would be terrible." She said.

Jisung nodded. "I was thinking more like... between people like you and me." He said.

"Oh! Well, yeah. That's different. I guess the biggest obstacle for people like us is probably rhe financial aspect. Or the different cultures. Sometimes we see things differently." She said logically.

"Right." Jisung hummed. "Sooooo.... How long do you want to date for Lani?" He finally asked.

"Oh!" She said, somehow surprised even though he had been talking about marriage the entire time. "You mean like... actually US?"
