"I told you I was away from God last night. And I think I am more so now than perhaps I ever have been."
"Ever have been, why?"
"Y'know last night I had a dream. A dream that I was in that same situation with that mechanical thing, and when I ripped dit apart it was entirely alive. There was blood all over the inside of it. And when I looked at the body, it was different, it was the body of a little boy. And it reminds me of how I felt when I did it to the real thing. I felt all the adrenaline going, and didn't think clearly but to destroy."
"That's horrible... What do you think it means?"
"I think it means, I'm becoming a horrible person all over again."
"We're all no good."
"But I guess some more than others."
"But we all deserve forgiveness, you think so?"
"Maybe... Maybe..."
They walked into a street and the street was broken and crooked. The street was dirty and littered with trash and magazines that all came from some other society. They all appeared foreign to them, and was a signal that there was some sign of life out there, a society even and that they were finally getting close to some form of society. They began to walk through this road for miles on end, until there was a endless desert all around and cars that were all completely discarded and long forgotten, rust all over them and it was hot and dry. The desert rocks were cracked and the sun blazing through the sky as if it were angrily trying to take over the atmosphere for its own selfish self. A family walked by, there was a girl and a son along with a dog and the mother and father. They walked about through the sides of the road, just barely out of the road. They wore full desert gear and the dog had on a large bag which was carrying things around, and the rest of the family had on a bag. They all had on desert goggles and hats and we're fully clothed in dirty and battered pancho's. They make eye contact with Marilyn and Brick.
"Hey!" Marilyn yelled out.
The family stopped and approached them, "A- Water... Water.." He spoke dry and raspy with a coarse voice as he approached them.
"How long you've been walking?" Marilyn asked, as she reached into her bag for water. She handed them a full bottle and the man opened it and drank a bit. He handed it to his wife and she drank a bit too, and the rest of the half was for the two children. They both fought each other and the girl ended up pushing the goggles and hat off the boy. The boy had a disorder that had severely deformed the boy's face and the boy shook his fist and growled. The girl drank from the water as a bit of it spilled out, leaving his ta bit for the boy. The boy than grabbing the bottle and biting the girl. The mother holds back the boy and the girl cries in pain from the bite.
"Four..."
"Four?"
"Days.. more- more water." The man said, his voice still rough and raspy. Marilyn reached in her bag.
Brick touched her shoulder, "We can live, they may not. God would want us to be kind." She says to him. He let's go of her and she hands them two more bottles of water, and they all began to drink, with the boy being shunned away as he saw them drinking the water. They than went on their own paths, one going to wherever the road led and the other to the damned world. As they went further it seemed to only get hotter, with the view being visibly warped by the sheer heat. The heat was begining to get unbearable and they began to take off their clothes until they were wearing nothing but small tops, showing their arms that were incredibly dirty and scratched and dried blood in some parts, "You really have changed y'know." She said to Brick.
"I just- don't think they would've lived."
"You have no hope? I remember before you were always somewhat optimistic, sure you were realistic but now you've just lost all hope in other people. Do you even still believe in God?"
Brick stopped for a second, "Everyday I've been challenged. I know I've told people that it's going to be difficult, but I don't think I'm strong enough for it. I think I'm going to die and that'll be the end, and everyone I once knew will die with me."
"Those people won't die if you keep them immortalized forever."
"You mean... To tell you?"
"If you want to, tell me."
"Well... I'm going to tell you. I just want to say, that you're the only person that really left now. And you may be the last to ever hear it, but my past is long. Billions of years."
"Billions of years, what could you mean?"
"Yes, I'm indeed billions of years old."
"You're kidding, I don't believe that one bit!"
"You don't?" Brick bites down on his finger, his finger cleanly coming off. He holds up his hand and the finger instantly regenerated.
"What the-"
"I know. I am immortal, yes I indeed am."
"But- but than... All that time. What's been going on?"
"All that time, the very beginning y'know I was once a great man. There's been entire worlds that once were and are destroyed now. Omniverses, that's the name. Twice they do been wiped completely out. Before the first wipe I lived with a family... I was once a strong fighter, the greatest of all time and I defended my people. But than an evil came- and it... Was one being. That being- I dare not to say his name, he had haunted my dreams ever since. But no more, not with God. But now... They're appearing again. And they torture me endlessly, they're the reason it's all been wiped out. I could never forgive them."
"You- you had a family and they... What did they do?"
"They- did unspeakable things to them. And to my friends, all in front of me. They're all alive even now, but they're enclosed in a prison, one I can't reach or free then from. In pain that is comparable to what you describe as hell, the absolute worst. My granddaughter... My son.. my daughter in law, my own wife. All of them. And my friends. All that have died ever, ended up there. And now that I think of it- maybe there truly isn't a God. Because I know what's going to happen when we die, we'll just end up there. We're all going to suffer anyways, so what's the point? Why don't we just... Just kill each other? Why do we live like this? I understand- I understand it now. It spoke... And it was right, Ultra. Why do I understand Ultra?" He covered his face and began weeping.
"Than there is nothing. No afterlife. When we die that is it? Pain. Is that all that waits?"
"I'm sorry, that is it. And I've been through it all to know now. I've made friends tons of times before, but never has it worked. And I'm sorry I told you."
"It all doesn't matter than. I guess... I guess there is nothing." She walked, with a shocked look in her face, as though she had wasted her entire life and had now realized a truth she never would've expected and it had changed her, "Than I'll never see anybody again. I'll just be- insane. Pain that I can't believe you say. Pain- I don't... I don't want to die. I never want to die. Get me out of this reality, I want out of this place!" She too began weeping.
"I want to leave this reality too, I don't want to be here. I- I don't believe. There is nothing for us, we are hopeless and empty and this world is the only we have. We have to make most of it as we can at least. But now, I don't think." He stuttered in his words, almost afraid to say it, "I- I don't... I don't believe. That there is-" he closed his mouth, and then his eyes. He had to take a deep breath. He ha snow realized what a moment it was, almost a moment of abandonment that he had. He now had to say it, and once he said it he felt there was no going back. It was something in his mind ever since he left the community all that time ago and begins riding with Marilyn. And so he took a deep breath and and than opened his eyes. Finally he had decided to speak and he than said the words, "I don't believe there is a God anymore."
