Sorry for the exposition, but I can't find the transcript for the previous episode.

The past few weeks haven't been on Kenzie's side. She was working with Teresa on the Volker case and was getting very concerned with her. But she didn't have a lot of high hopes for working with the system. Long story short, they were very close to getting Volker until he killed their key witness, causing Kenzie to ask Patrick for help.

She knew she could be professional with him but she was tired of getting so many gifts from him. They weren't bad gifts; most of it was her favorite cup of tea and her favorite cookie from a small cafe down the street. The problem she had was that he hadn't apologized, making her more pissed.

So, she spent more time with Teresa and Nicole. Sometimes, it was a little awkward because she felt like third-wheeling. Eventually, she made peace with it and did other things like boxing.

Now, she was standing with the team in a mechanic shop, staring at a body.

"What do we got?" asked Teresa.

"Victim's male, 30s," said Rigsby. "Still working to ID him. Based on the level of decomp, the coroner thinks he's been dead for about two months. Oakland PD says that's when the building was boarded up."

Kenzie bent down to give the body a closer look. "Cause of death?"

"Because of marks on the victim's neck, the coroner's thinking strangulation."

"Dried blood?"

"Looks like."

"So the victim was killed here and then moved over there?" asked Teresa.

"Yeah, but no drag marks, and he looks to be at least 200 pounds."

"You think there's a second killer?"

"Look at him," said Kenzie. "A big guy like that? Kinda hard to carry him by yourself." She turned to Rigsby. "Hey, did anyone else have, uh, access to this building?"

"Not since it was boarded up. Oakland PD say there was no sign of forced entry when the demo crew arrived and found the body."

While Teresa was on the phone, Kenzie's eyes caught something red on the ground. She walked over and picked it up. She turned back to the two agents.

"It's a remote-controlled car," she said. "I just found it. Why was it there?"

"Okay, I have an ID on the victim," said Cho, walking up to them. "His name's Horatio Jones."

The girls made eye contact. "Horatio Jones?"

"Yeah, you know him?"

"We know of him. Jones was a geologist for an energy company owned by Tommy Volker."

"He was set to testify before a grand jury against Volker two months ago, and then he disappeared," said Teresa. "We always thought Volker was behind it, but now we know it. Volker did this."

🙂

"The coroner investigator found tissue under the victim's fingernails. It's headed to the lab now," explained Cho.

"Good, and make sure the ME gets me the results from the autopsy as soon as possible. I want to move quickly on this," said Teresa.

"Yes, boss."

The girls walked over to the couch where Patrick was sitting.

"Volker wouldn't have killed Jones himself," said Kenzie. "He never gets his hands dirty."
