Zoe Saldana - Abby Johnson
Kenzie sighed in relief as she started walking out of her old bedroom. She had been walking around the house for a couple of weeks, but this was the second time there was no pain.
As she walked into the hallway, she started giggling and humming a happy tune to herself. Kenzie danced a little before stopping. In the living room, she was met with Patrick, who was sitting on a couch with a book in hand.
He stared at her in amusement. "Hey there."
"Hi," she said quietly.
"Someone's happy this morning."
She walked over to the couch, leaning half of her body against the arm of it. "Well, you would be, too, if you weren't in pain anymore." She glanced at the book in his hands. "What are you reading?"
"A Tale of Two Cities."
Kenzie just nodded. She never knew what the book was actually about, nor was she going to read it. But Patrick liked it.
The doorbell rang, causing the two to look up in that direction. With a raised eyebrow, Kenzie got up and walked toward the door, not noticing that Patrick was behind her.
She yelped in surprise as she opened the door. Standing in the doorway was Kenzie's first love: Abby Johnson. Her eyes are filled with some type of bittersweet anguish.
"Abby. What are you doing here?" Kenzie asked.
"I, uh, heard about what happened with you and Evelyn, and I... wanted to visit you, I guess," answered Abby. She looked up at the man behind Kenzie, causing her face to fall slightly. "Who is this?"
Kenzie quickly looked over her shoulder. "Oh, this is Patrick. He's a friend."
"So, you're Abby," said Patrick with a hint of jealousy. Kenzie picked it up and pinched his side.
"Do you want to come in?"
🙂
Kenzie slid a cup of coffee in front of Abby. She couldn't fathom why she came. The last time she and Abby talked, they both said some hateful words. Very hateful words.
She sat down in front of the woman before her and sighed. "Abby, what are you really doing here?"
"Come on, I can't visit you."
Kenzie raised her eyebrow and scoffed. "Never did before."
"Oh, come on. You still can't be..."
"Can't be what? Mad? Pissed off?" She let out an annoyed laugh. "If I remember correctly, you were the one who told me that I was actually crazy and paranoid."
"Oh my God."
"So, then, imagine my disappointment and anger when I learned that you were in there for an article. And that you used me for said article."
"I didn't use you, Kenzie. You are right. I was there for research, but you weren't a part of it. I was just going to keep a low profile, but then, I met you."
Kenzie sighed. "Answer the question. Why did you come here?"
"I thought I could get you back."
Kenzie laughed, clutching her stomach. She raised her hand. "Sorry," she said shakingly. She cleared her throat, rubbing her sore cheeks. "Sorry. Sorry. You said that you could get me back. But, now, seriously, answer the question." Abby deadpanned. "Holy shit. You were actually serious. Abby, I'll admit you... I did love you when we were 15. But after all that shit that happened, I left it behind. Then, I got... somewhat better.
"You could've never gotten me back. Not in any way, shape or form. Our relationship is dead. Which didn't work out, I guess, since you didn't even land the job you wrote that article for." Kenzie shrugged. "I don't love you anymore."
"What about that night?"
"It was nothing."
"Is he a part of it?"
"No." Kenzie rubbed her hand down her face. "I think you should leave."
Without a word, Abby got up and left. Kenzie followed her. She lifted up her hand to wave but was met with a slammed door. She threw her hands up in defeat and pinched the bridge of her nose.
"You okay?" She turned to see Patrick standing there with his arms crossed.
"Sure. I guess."
"You two were in there for a long time. Bet you did a lot of catching up."
She smirked at his annoyed tone. "Is someone jealous?"
Patrick's face fell as he blushed. "No. Why would I be jealous? I don't have a reason to get jealous."
"Uh-huh." She looked down at the clock on the nearby wall. "Let's go," she said, grabbing her purse and car keys. She opened the door and turned around. "Come on."
"Where are we going?"
Kenzie and Patrick walked side-by-side at the local farmers market that looks over the beach. The streets burst with laughter and joy as vendors encouraged customers to try their items. Kenzie pulled her jacket closer to her and zipped it up, sighing as the gust of wind blew a bit stronger.
She turned to Patrick, who had a basket full of different items. "Are you sure you can carry all of that?" she asked.
"Yes," he answered. "I got it handled."
They continued walking to different vendors and saying hi. The two ignored everyone's compliments about them being a couple. Eventually, they sat down at the beach and had a small picnic.
Patrick looked over at Kenzie, who was eating a sandwich. "This made you feel better?"
"To be fair," she started with a mouth full of food. "I brought you just so you could hold me things. But, yeah, I feel good."
There was a pause. "What did Abby want?"
Kenzie looked at Patrick and placed her sandwich down on the plate. "Um. She... wanted to get back together."
"What?!"
"I know. It might've been different if she had called after we–" Kenzie looked down with wide eyes.
"You what?"
"Nothing." Patrick raised an eyebrow. "Stop looking at me. You know what? We don't talk about something else?"
"I guess."
Sorry for this short, late chapter. This was all I could come up with. But, next chapter is going to be way better. Also, would y'all be open to a Sookie Stackhouse fanfic?
