"I thought you hated hugs" , I voiced out as he wrapped his arms ever so gently around me.
"I still do, but hugs from you are an exception", he pulled me closer, a small smile tugging at the corner of his lips.
Intrigued, I slightly tilted my head...

Veer's apartment felt suffocating the moment we walked in. Veer didn't turn on the lights, didn't glance back at me. The faint glow from the lamp illuminated the living area as he strode straight to the sofa and collapsed on it, letting his head fall on the headrest.
I closed the door softly behind me and made my way to the dining table. Setting my clutch aside, I poured him a glass of water and approached him quietly.
"Veer, " I whispered, but he didn't respond.
He had his eyes closed, his eyebrows furrowed in tension. I noticed his shirt hung loosely over his frame, a few buttons undone while his blazer was carelessly draped over the armrest of the sofa.
I softly called out, once again and to my relief he shifted in his seat and finally lifted his head. The moment our gazes met, my breath hitched. His eyes, always so sharp and steady, were clouded with pain. A pain so deep it seemed to reach his soul.
"Here, drink some water." my voice trembled.
I forwarded the glass to him and he took a small sip of it before placing it aside and returning back to his previous position. I felt a pang of hurt at his aloofness. The weight of his silence pressed down on my chest like a heavy stone.
"Veer, say something. Anything." I stepped closer, sinking to my knees in front of him. "You are scaring me."
Finally, he exhaled a long, shaky breath, lifting his head to look at me. "Do you know what it's like to trust someone with everything, only to have them rip it all away."
The pain in his voice hit me like a wave.
"We haven't had this conversation before but do you know why I never talk about my past ? " He spoke, his voice raw and heavy with emotion.
I was too stunned to react to anything so I gently shook my head.
"Because it's a mess."
I knew whatever was coming, it was related to the unforeseen intruder of the evening — Saniya.
"Veer I am here. I will listen to everything you have got to tell me but if sharing about this is going to trigger the wounds you have kept hidden then it's okay. You don't have to. "
"I want to, Prisha. I want you to know every piece of my fucked up life."
I squeezed his knees assuring him to continue, surprised by the vulnerability in his voice.
