The atmosphere was tense, and Sam could tell that Sans was desperately digging for an excuse to feed them, something that didn't involve them learning the big secret that was his life. "I'm a friend of theirs. My lover here in Ebbot broke up with me, so I'm crashing here until I can get a ticket back to my home." Sam came back in with a proper shirt on, his excuse flowing out faster and more smoothly than butter on toast. "O-oh, I'm s-so sorry to hear that..." Alphys sympathized, and Undyne grunted. "Oh yeah? Where did you meet?" She seemed suspicious of him, but he met her suspicion head on. "Cairo introduced me to them. I used to visit the pawn shop he works at because they sell cool stuff. That's where I met Sans. When Cairo heard of my predicament, he asked if they had room for me. He has a few hotel stays left anyway and didn't want to waste them. So here we are." Undyne hummed, but finally seemed to back down. "uh, sorry to have startled you, sam. undyne was hoping to be able to see cairo, but she wouldn't listen..."

Sam was reintroduced to the others again, though it was only Undyne, Alphys, and Frisk this time. Undyne was just as rough with him as the first - though he supposed this was their third meeting now - her grip strong as they shook hands with each other. He was sure his flush was going to bruise. Alphys was timid and sympathetic, whispering a soft apology for his 'breakup' again and patting his hand. "Y-you'll find the-the right one e-eventually..." She murmured before he moved on to Frisk, who seemed to scrutinize him for some reason. It made him feel nervous and on guard for some reason as they shook hands. "Hiya, kid. Nice to meet you..." Frisk shook his hand, seemingly searching his face for something he couldn't begin to question. "Your hands are cold." They finally said, and Sam sweat dropped. "Are they? Sorry, I can't really feel hot and cold, so I don't notice." Frisk's eyes narrowed, as did Undyne's. "I thought humans were sensitive to that stuff?" She demanded. Sam and Sans both seemed to laugh nervously when Papyrus jumped in. "ACTUALLY THAT'S NOT TRUE! HUMANS CAN BE BORN WITHOUT THE ABILITY TO FEEL TEMPERATURE!"
⚔️⚔️⚔️
With Papyrus quick save, they were finally able to usher the three out, and Sam clenched his fists and unclenched them. "Cairo is almost ready. You won't have to deal with a random human in your house to make excuses for anymore. Sorry, guys." Sans shrugged and patted his back. "eh, don't worry about it. it couldn't be helped." Papyrus looked thoughtfully at his older brothers. "Why Can't They Know About Your Soul Predicament? Would They Know About This Illegal Spell?" Sans shook his head, shrugging. "doubt it, but if undyne were to tell the king, who would definitely know about it since it was him who banned it, i dunno what would happen to him." Sam- Cairo crossed his arms. "I'm personally more worried about you, having aided me despite knowing precisely what I am." Sans and Papyrus both gave him an assuring smile. "We Will Be Fine, Brother." Sans tilted his skull. "also, when didja change back?" Cairo shrugged. "Just now. We did warn you we were going to be changing soon. When our human form grows cold, it's a sign." The other two looked at each other, seeming to mentally note it down.
