Cairo was running. His souls pounding as they both fueled him to go faster. From behind him, dogs barked viscous, edging ever closer to the monster they were hunting. He'd been separated from WD. They had been fleeing to the Underground together to try and warn Asgore of the mages and armies closing in, but the scouting parties had caught up, and whoever hadn't made it to Ebbot was being hunted down. A dog jumped at Cairo's heels, and he whipped around to kick it in the face. It delayed him some, and the dogs and scouts got closer, but at least his bones weren't being snacked on. Cairo kept running, desperately searching for his out. All the was were trees though, everywhere. Was this it? Was he going to die like this? Torn apart by hungry war dogs? He didn't wanna die... there was an explosion of sound as Cairo turned towards what looked to be a steep ravine he could hide in. The breath was knocked out of him as the musket ball tore through his ribs and cannonballed through his soul. Cairo fell forward, down into the ravine as his souls traded places, and he took human form.

Sam took a shuttering gasp. It was hard to breathe. Every last bone in his body felt broken. He wasn't supposed to be alive. The drop alone should have, and probably did, kill him. And it felt like it was going to again. Blood bubbled up his throat as he tried to catch his breath. It was filling his lungs, filling his esophagus... Sam let go so he couldn't hurt again. It was dark when he woke up again. He could feel something tearing at his leg, and Sam flailed - or tried to anyway, his movements were limited, he was in an immense amount of pain. He tried to call for help.
.
.
But nobody came.
Dried blood stuck to him from the last time his soul gave out, but he knew he'd become part of the food chain while he was dead. He would have to wait until he could shift into Cairo again, get out of this place. It couldn't be too long if he kept dying like this. A human body took a lot longer to repair than a skeleton one, after all. Sam would have to wait for it to happen.

Cairo woke up slowly and sat up slowly as he tried to calm his beating soul. "Cairo...? Are... You Alright...?" He blinked a few times to clear his vision of the trees and stone that had surrounded him all those years ago, his first time truly dying. "Yes... I'm alright, brother..." He replied slowly as he looked up at Papyrus. It wasn't just Papyrus. "ya were whimpering in your sleep, but ya wouldn't wake up, no matter what we tried." Sans was searching for any sign of distress. Cairo smiled apologetically. "I'm sorry to have worried you both. I was, uh... well, I suppose you could call it a dream. I was dreaming of when I was first separated from our father. I was hunted down, killed, and then killed again and again until I could escape in this form. I had to hide in the woods without shelter for a long time while whoever remained on the surface was killed." He explained as if it were something normal. To him, it was, but they both flinched hard. "oof, sorry ya had such a bad dream, bud." Papyrus quickly pitched in. "You Are Not Alone! Sans Has Nightmares Too! I Know Just How To Fix This!" With that, Papyrus ran to the kitchen.
