Sam wasn't particularly happy. It was going to take ages for Cairo's soul to reform. Oh well, nothing to be done now. They had both known that it would come to this eventually. The king and doc were both froze as they had traded places, magic turning bone to flesh, and Sam flopped his head to look at the human and monster trying to kill him. "Boo." It was a single, deadpan word, but it had Dr. Whittaker jumping up and stumbling away from him. "You- you- w-what are you?!" Sam wished he could laugh this off. It probably would've been funny. He wasn't amused, though. "Well, doc, the short answer is... I'm a necro. That thing that you killed Cairo over with? Yeah, we are one of them. Can you let me go now? It's a pain in the ass to reform a shattered soul, and I already have to do Cairo's." The king seemed to pale before his gaze snapped to Sans, the accomplice. "And this is why we didn't tell you - Asgore, listen, don't blame them! I'm hundreds of years older, and they didn't know what I was- you can't execute innocents, can you?" Oh, Asgore could. However, he needed to get the whole picture first.

Sam was spinning the lie faster than Asgore could keep up with. He was a necro, created in the war. Instead of trading a life for a life, though, both souls clung onto this body of Cairo's. He had been looking for a way to break his spell when he heard monsters had surfaced and found out about the skeleton brothers - monsters he could blend in seamlessly with. He never told them anything about what he was, but when he learned Sans had influence within the inner court, he tricked Sans into taking him into the archives to find that spell. "I was hoping to be able to reverse it and free my souls, but then you came along, and I know how stubborn your dad was. I let you hear what you wanted to hear because I knew you weren't gonna hear anything else." Sam concluded, resting his elbows on the table he was sat at. "My name, at least in this form, is Samuel Bennett, and you can find my grave if you don't believe me. Undyne knows where it is. She found me there."

It was a lot for anyone to take in. Dr. Whittaker was probably going to have nightmares and never let his daughter near him again, which was fine, and Asgore left to see what was true and what wasn't. Lucky for Sam, Sans had a great poker face, and Papyrus legitimately didn't know until after Sam had moved in. Hell, he had to get shot before they told Papyrus. "Man, we really do have the worst luck, huh?" Of course Cairo didn't reply since he was dead. Sam was just stuck here in this cage until Asgore could confirm his story. From there, Sam didn't know what was next. Obviously not death. Asgore knew better, necros couldn't die. Perhaps Asgore would leave him here in the prison system, far from his goal of putting his souls to rest. Or maybe he would help find a way to undo the Necromancer Spell. Honestly, it was a 50/50 shot either way. "I hope Sans, Pap, and Al are doing ok out there..." He knew Alphys never told her girlfriend, which would probably be an issue if she found out Alphys knew about them... well, he supposed he would find out.
