Cairo woke up halfway into building the first machine. He was a little confused between what happened when his soul broke and now. Papyrus had to pull him upstairs, and with the help of Sam to project the memories of after death I to his skull, he got the basics. They were rescuing dad to undo the spell. They were trying to free his souls. "I... am not sure how to feel about this..." Cairo admitted quietly. He'd lived such a long time. He wanted to move on, and yet... "Are you sure? We just found each other, brother." Papyrus gave him a smile and a hug. "We Are Very Sure, Brother! You... You Deserve To Be At Peace..." Cairo tensed before he hugged back. If Papyrus said so... he could feel in both his souls that they were tired. They wanted to move on. So, he was doing this then. Finally, after these past decades, an entire century... he was happy to finally get this chance. He was happy it was his brother's giving it to him. "I'm going to go help out, ok, Pap?" The younger gave a quick nod. "I Understand, Brother! Wait- Take This With You!"

So Cairo carried down some drinks for the team, hot cocoa with whipped cream and peppermint shavings, courtesy of Papyrus, Toriel, and Frisk. "O-oh, thank you, Cairo..." Alphys in particular seemed especially grateful, as cold-blooded as she was. "you filled in, cairo?" Sans asked as he sipped his cocoa. "I am, " Cairo informed, "in fact, I think I know where I can help." Sans rose a bonebrow. "hate to break it to ya, but ya were already helpin' undyne with the heavy lifting. or. sam was, anyway." Oh, Cairo already knew, but he knew where his soul itself would be most beneficial to the team. "You are in need of an anchor, right?" Sans paused, then he and Alphys shared a glance. They were already thinking about this as the project had gone on. Cairo's soul was the obvious choice. Gaster would recognize his eldest's soul signature and be eager to follow it. It seemed that without any prompting, Cairo already knew what he needed to do. "yeah. ya offering?" Cairo nodded again. "I am. Our father wanted me back so badly that he cast a forbidden spell. I know he will follow me back."

So, the plan was set. Cairo would be going in with the stabilizer and a rope to pull him back if needed. He could find their father, plant the stabilizer on Gaster's sternum, and then lead him back via the rope before they closed the portal back up. That was the basic gist of it, anyway. For now, Alphys was finishing the machine with Undyne while Sans started on the stabilizer, going through its mechanics over and over again with Cairo until it was ingrained into his skull how to do his part a month before he would actually have to do it. Cairo almost couldn't believe it had been two months since this started. It felt as if time had flown rather than crawled as it seemed to have his entire existence. Perhaps it was spending time with his brothers and friends. Maybe it was the idea of finally getting the chance to move on. It was probably both. But for once, he was experiencing time as if he weren't an immortal creature killed a hundred times just to return. It was really nice. He would have been lying if he didn't say that he was going to miss this.
