It was too early when the repeated knocking began. Sans was nowhere near ready to get up yet, Papyrus was just getting dressed and hadn't left his room yet, so Cairo had no choice but to wake up and get it. He was careful, a soldier by soul, but it was only Alphys. Socially anxious Alphys who was here far too early and expression was far too panicked for him to let his guard down. He let the monster in before slamming the door shut and locking it up tight. "Dr. Alphys, I must ask what is troubling you so? It is 4 in the morning -" He was cut off as Alphys snatched one of his hands, inspecting it and feeling his joints up. Cairo pulled away, freaked out. "What is going on here?" He demanded. "I-I um... y-you don't look... h-human..." She muttered. "Perhaps because I am not?" Cairo offered in confusion. "B-but you were!" She squeaked out. For a beat, Cairo went quiet. So did Sans and Papyrus, one skeleton carrying the other. "Th... the footage caught you... t-turning into a human..." Alphys continued more nervously, not liking the shift in atmosphere.

"what did you do?" Sans immediately demanded. At first, Alphys squeaked and ducked away, thinking he was talking to her, but Cairo responded calmly. "There was a wounded child, and I approached the only way I believed I could. What is... footage? Obviously, it has nothing to do with feet." Sans sighed heavily and teleported out of Papyrus arms. "it's what we call what cameras record, cairo. i think you remember me saying there are cameras everywhere in the lab?" Sans pinched his nasal bridge, trying to think of a way out of this one. "Sans... w-what is going on here...?" Alphys asked quietly. "Mind... If I Answer Your Question With A Question?" Papyrus sounded unlike himself, his voice small. "Who All Saw The Footage?" Alphys seemed to be increasingly more nervous with how everyone was being. "J-just me, Dr. Whittaker, a-and the guard o-on watch! I-I swear! The other t-two are j-just as confused!" Cairo recognized that Alphys was breaking under the pressure. While a good thing for their enemies, he recognized Alphys was a friend and gave Sans a look. Better to have more allies to help in this crisis than enemies.

"I am afraid my story may be a little complicated for someone who wasn't born in that time or raised with the knowledge Sans was." Cairo placed a pacifiying hand on Alphys head to help calm her nerves. "But we managed with Papyrus, so I know we can do it." Cairo sat her down and recounted his tale yet again. Every bit from his unusual two souls in one body to how unbelievably illegal he was and how much trouble Sans and Papyrus could be in for housing him. "My brothers- they really are my brothers- only wish to release my souls from the spell, but unfortunately, I do not know what binds me or Samuel here. That is about it. That is how I came to live here." Cairo finished and looked back at his brothers. Papyrus, naturally, was encouraging him with a thumbs up. Sans seemed more nervous about Alphys' reaction. The lizard monster had her head bowed, deep in thought as she picked through the story. "S-So if this gets t-to Asgore... what would he do...?" Cairo shrugged and looked to Sans. "best case, prison time, worst case, death penalty. i dunno what he can do to a necro, though."
