Execution Day

Cairo sat in a chair, a phone in his hands. On the other side, Alphys fidgeted, and Papyrus seemed to squirm in place while Sans looked as cool as a cucumber. "i tried to use my position to make a private appeal to the judge," Sans was saying and Cairo could only guess how well that went, considering the humans already made a decision on what they were going to do with him. "it was denied. your execution date remains the same, bud. sorry..." Exactly what Cairo expected. "That's fine. Even if Asgore destroys both my souls, they will just slowly mend. Wouldn't be the first time. It's just a pain." Cairo sighed, leaning into the counter a little. "that happened before?" Sans asked, and Papyrus honestly looked a little sick. Cairo nodded quietly. "Yeah. A little after the war ended, whatever monsters remained were hunted. Then I fell into a ravine and died again." He left out the part where the animals ravaged his body for food. Papyrus already looked worse off. "H-How Horrible..." Alphys stuttered her agreement, shaking more with nerves. "H-h-how a-are you g-g-going t-to h-handle th-the e-ex-execution?" A simple question. "I'm not. I'll take it as I always have."

The days leading up to it were fine. Cairo wasn't concerned. He wasn't looking forward to it, but he wasn't concerned either. His friends and family were more nervous. Papyrus because he was about to die, Sans because he was wrongfully convicted in the first place, and Alphys because she didn't know what was going to happen when his souls switched and if it would affect Sam. "Well, you're awfully calm for being a dead man in a few days." A fellow prisoner commented, also set for the death penalty a month from now. "I came to terms with death ages ago." Was Cairo's simple reply. And that was that. The prisoner only laughed. "Me too." The days ticked down. Before Cairo knew it, he was choosing his 'last meal'. He chose a simple Subway Sandwich foot long with a chocolate cookie and a fanta orange. He figured it would mix better with the death chemicals tomorrow than any more complex a meal. It was almost like Cairo blinked, and he was walking into the room with Undyne. Dr. Whittaker was there, along with Asgore.

Cairo was laid out and strapped down, his shirt removed for the process. As a skeleton, they had to inject the chemicals straight into his soul, which was a good thing for Sam. Cairo still wasn't excited. While Dr. Whittaker made the final preparations, and Cairo looked through the observation window. His brothers were there, as well as Alphys. Cairo tried to flash them a smile to calm their nerves, but Undyne quickly gained his attention. "Don't even look at her." Undyne hissed, nice and cold. "I thought you were cool, man. Then you pull this!" Cairo said nothing to defend himself. They would see the truth soon enough. "Cairo Typeface, for the attempt to use an illegal spell upon my loyal subjects and other innocents, you are sentenced to death. Do you have any last words?" Asgore went through the speel, and Cairo sighed softly. "The truth had to come out, eventually." Was all Cairo said. It was confusing to them, but they went on with it. The last thing Cairo remembered was the needle in his soul as the drug was pushed into him via iv. Then, he heard his soul shatter.
