If someone ever asked Lan Wangji if he had been scared of anything in his life, the answer would likely be no. But today, for some reason, the perfect Lan Wangji was terrified.
He had promised his bunny a date at 9 AM sharp. And yet, here he was—running late. It was already 8:30 AM, and he was still getting ready.
Last night, he had returned early from the office, hoping to rest well before his big day with Wei Ying. But just as he was about to sleep, his secretary, Jingyi, called. Their European client had an urgent matter that required immediate discussion, dragging the meeting past midnight. As a result, Wangji had gone to bed far too late and overslept.
Now, dressed sharply, wallet and keys in hand, he rushed to the parking lot, glancing at the time. Only fifteen minutes left. Reaching Wei Ying’s house on time? That was practically mission impossible. And the real fear? Wei Ying’s reaction if he dared to be late for their first date.
Even though his boyfriend often acted like a small, adorable bunny, Wangji knew the truth—his Wei Ying could be a sassy brat when he wanted to be. And Wangji had no intention of spoiling his mood.
"Come on, Wangji! You can do this. You’re only… thirty minutes late," he muttered to himself, parking in front of the Wei and Jiang mansion. He had done his best to drive as fast as possible without breaking any laws.
Stepping out of the car, he picked up the bouquet of flowers he had bought on the way. Taking a deep breath, he rang the doorbell.
A maid answered and led him inside to the dining area, where Yanli was setting the table.
"Oh, Wangji, you’re here," she greeted him warmly, walking over with a small smile. "And looking very good, I must say."
"Good morning," Wangji replied, nodding politely. "Thank you." Unsure of what else to say, he got straight to the point. "Wei Ying?"
Yanli chuckled. "Oh, he was so excited last night. He prepared everything for the date himself." She shook her head fondly. "He’s probably still getting ready in his room. You sit, I’ll go call him."
Just as she was about to leave, the rest of the family entered the dining area.
"Ohh, look who’s here—my son-in-law!" Cangse Sanren said excitedly, eyes twinkling with amusement.
Wangji immediately stood up, bowing slightly in greeting. "Good morning, everyone," he said, his voice calm as ever. But despite his composed expression, the red tint on his ears did not go unnoticed as he have been called son-in-law.
"Lan Zhan!"
A voice rang out, filled with energy and excitement.
Lan Wangji turned toward the source, only to find himself utterly breathless.
Wei Ying stood there, looking nothing short of mesmerizing—a baby blue silk shirt, neatly tucked into crisp white jeans, accentuating his lean figure. The soft fabric shimmered under the morning light, and as if that wasn’t enough, silver dangling earrings adorned his ears, catching the light with every slight movement. A hint of makeup graced his features, subtle yet enhancing his already irresistible beauty.
Wangji was gone. Completely and utterly.
So much so that he didn’t even notice the way Wei Ying’s family members were chuckling at his completely whipped expression.
Wei Ying, on the other hand, did notice. And the way Lan Zhan was looking at him—wide-eyed, unmoving, speechless—sent an unexpected rush of butterflies fluttering in his stomach.
Suppressing a smile, he stepped closer, tilting his head slightly. "Lan Zhan," he called again, amused by the lack of response.
Still nothing.
