Love has the power to transform us, to make us step out of our comfort zones and do things we’ve never imagined. Lan Wangji was no exception. For Wei Ying, he was ready to go to any lengths, determined to make him feel loved, valued, and secure.
After their heartfelt conversation about meeting on Wei Ying’s birthday, they agreed on the details of their meeting. Wei Ying’s parents were planning a small dinner party at a hotel to celebrate his birthday with close family. Wei Ying, filled with excitement, extended an invitation to Lan Zhan, wanting him to meet his family as part of the celebration.
However, Wangji felt it was necessary to speak to Wei Ying's family beforehand. He wanted to reveal his identity and explain his reasons for keeping it a secret from Wei Ying. He believed that Wei Ying’s family had the right to know first and wanted their understanding and approval before the big day.
And so, Lan Wangji found himself standing outside the Jiang and Wei mansion early in the morning, ready to take this crucial step.
He had carefully planned his visit, ensuring that Wei Ying would be at the Lan office, unaware of his presence at the mansion. Wangji had already informed Wei Ying’s parents about his visit and requested them to keep it a secret from Wei Ying.
As he stood there, dressed impeccably in his usual composed demeanor, his heart raced slightly. This was more than just a meeting—it was a declaration of his intentions and a step closer to being a part of Wei Ying’s life completely.
Knocking on the large, intricately designed door, he waited patiently. A few moments later, the door opened, and Madam Wei appeared, her warm eyes filled with curiosity and a faint smile playing on her lips.
“Lan Wangji, oh! you came.” she greeted politely.
“Yes,” he replied with a respectful bow. “Thank you for allowing me to meet you this morning. I hope it’s not too inconvenient.”
“Not at all, dear.” Madam Wei said, gesturing for him to come inside. “We’ve been curious like why you suddenly announced the visit even not telling this to A'Ying. Please, come in.”
As he stepped inside, Lan Wangji felt a sense of calm wash over him. He was ready to face Wei Ying’s family, ready to share the truth, and, most importantly, ready to fight for the happiness of the person he loved most.
Inside the living room, Lan Wangji saw everyone seated on the plush couches, their expressions filled with curiosity and a hint of wariness. He greeted them with a respectful bow before taking a seat across from them.
“Wangji, what’s this sudden meeting about?” Jiang Fengmian asked, his tone calm yet laced with concern.
“Oh, Fengmian! Don’t bombard him with questions the moment he walks in,” Madam Yu chided, walking into the room with a tray of tea. Two maids followed her, carrying plates of neatly arranged snacks. She placed the tray before Lan Wangji and offered him a cup. “Here, dear, have some tea first.”
Lan Wangji accepted it with another polite bow. “Thank you,” he said softly, taking a sip before carefully placing the cup back on the table.
Clearing his throat, he began, his voice steady but earnest. “I came here to discuss an important matter. It’s about Wei Ying.”
At the mention of Wei Ying’s name, the entire room seemed to shift. Concern flickered in everyone’s eyes, especially Mrs. Wei, whose gaze remained fixed on Lan Wangji. Her brows furrowed slightly when she noticed his use of the informal name for A'ying, a sign of closeness that surprised her. She didn’t say anything, but her surprise was evident.
“I’m sure you’re all aware that Wei Ying has been talking to someone he considers his boyfriend through messages,” Lan Wangji continued, pausing to observe their reactions. The family exchanged looks, nodding in agreement.
