Wei Ying walked through the college corridors with a cheerful spring in his step. It had been four days since he and Lan Zhan had confessed their feelings for each other. Since that moment, their conversations had deepened, filled with little revelations about their lives and endearing exchanges. Lan Zhan often called him by sweet names, making Wei Ying's heart flutter every time.

Through these chats, Wei Ying learned more about Lan Zhan's family—he had an older brother, parents, and an uncle, though Lan Zhan hadn’t shared their names, and Wei Ying hadn’t pressed. In return, Wei Ying shared that he’d been homeschooled due to family circumstances they faced and his family think his life was in danger at that time. He'd met Huaisang in high school since Huaisang’s brother, Nie Mingjue, was a good friend of his sister.

Wei Ying also admitted that Lan Zhan was the first friend he had ever made entirely on his own. Even though Huaisang was one of his closest and best friends, no one could quite take Lan Zhan's place. Knowing this filled Lan Zhan’s heart with warmth and contentment.

Wei Ying did not forget about Wangji. He was just busy with other work so, he just let it slide for now. Otherwise his mission will remain same.

Wei Ying walked through the crowded halls of the university, scanning faces in search of his brother, Jiang Cheng.

Huisang was out sick today, and Jiang Cheng had offered to have lunch together. Now in the engineering department, Wei Ying was so focused on finding his brother that he didn’t notice the person approaching him until a tap on his shoulder snapped him out of his search.

“Hey,” said the stranger. Wei Ying turned and saw none other than Xue Yang, the handsome but notoriously sly playboy of the university.

“Hello,” Wei Ying greeted him politely, giving a slight bow. The situation felt awkward; he’d never interacted with a stranger alone like this before, at least not without Huisang or Jiang Cheng around.

“Aren’t you that cutie from the psychology department?” Xue Yang said, smirking. “Hmm, what’s your name again? Oh yeah, Wei Wuxian, right?”

Wei Ying gave a strained smile and nodded, still glancing around, hoping Jiang Cheng would show up.

“So, looking for someone?” Xue Yang asked with a flirtatious smile. “It’s an honor for our department to have a beauty like you visiting us. Doesn’t happen every day.”

“I’m Xue Yang, by the way,” he added.

“Yeah, I know. I mean, everyone knows you. Why wouldn’t they? You’re pretty famous as the university’s playboy,” Wei Ying replied sharply, already irritated by Xue Yang’s overly friendly behavior.

“And, for your information, I’m looking for my brother. He’ll be here in five minutes.” He turned away, trying to keep some distance as Xue Yang edged closer.

Xue Yang chuckled. “Oh, so you already know me. Guess there’s no need to hide anything, huh?” He leaned in even closer, grabbing Wei Ying’s wrist. “Why don’t we have a little chat while you wait, baby boy?”

Wei Ying’s alarm grew as he tried to pull his hand free. “Let go of me!” he demanded, anger rising in his voice. “Or I’ll report you.”

Xue Yang smirked and leaned in further—until a loud slap echoed through the hall. Wei Ying had struck him hard. Xue Yang stumbled slightly, his hand flying to his cheek, where blood trickled from the impact.

Onlookers gasped in shock; some even smiled, as Xue Yang was well-known for his troublesome behavior. Furious, Xue Yang stepped toward Wei Ying, but Wei Ying was faster.
