Priest Ge Ge:
Wangji, I need your help.
Little Brother:
Yes, Ge. What happened?
Priest Ge Ge:
Can you come to the university right now? It’s urgent.
Little Brother:
What happened, Ge? You’re scaring me now.
Priest Ge Ge:
Don’t panic, Wangji. I’ll explain everything once you get here.
Little Brother:
Okay, Ge. I’ll be there as soon as possible.
Priest Ge Ge:
Yes, please. And drive carefully.
Lan Wangji stared at the last message, a crease forming between his brows. Something was definitely wrong. His brother never asked for help like this—never sounded so urgent.
Without wasting a second, Wangji grabbed his keys and headed out, heart beating just a little faster than usual.

Wei Ying was walking through the hallway, project report in hand. After the recent date, he had returned to the company to continue his research work. He had already collected all the necessary data through employee interviews and observations. Now, only the assessment stage remained. But before that, he needed to submit his findings to the department.
He was on his way to Professor Xui Ching’s office to hand in the observational report. Before that, he had a short chat with Nie Huaisang, who was also busy with his own research. After bidding him goodbye, Wei Ying continued toward the professor's office.
He knocked on the door before entering, but there was no response—only some loud voices from inside. A girl’s voice could be heard, raised in frustration or anger. Wei Ying hesitated. It sounded like a personal matter, and he didn’t want to intrude. But something about the tone made him feel uneasy—worried for the professor.
He quietly pushed the door open and stepped inside.
Professor Xui Ching was seated in his chair, his expression dark—angry, even hurt. Across from him stood a girl, clearly in the middle of a heated argument. From her side profile, Wei Ying recognized some similarities to the professor. She must be a family member, he thought.
They hadn’t noticed him yet, so Wei Ying decided it was best to quietly slip out. But just as he turned to leave, he froze at the sound of a familiar name.
"Ren, you’re not understanding. Father is giving you false hope about Lan Wangji!" Xui Ching said.
Wei Ying’s breath hitched. Lan Wangji?
"No! I don’t care who’s against it—I want him. I want Lan Wangji for myself!" the girl, Ren, declared with fiery determination.
Wei Ying felt like the ground had slipped beneath his feet. His heart pounded, hoping—praying—that it was all a misunderstanding. At first, he thought it might be someone else, but what came next removed all doubt. But the next words only confirmed it.
"Ching, can’t you help me? You know his brother, Lan Xichen. He is your colleague isn't he? Please… help me with this," she pleaded.
Xui Ching sighed, rubbing his temples. "Ren, you should understand—"
And then, he stopped. As he turned, he looked toward the doorway. He had just noticed Wei Wuxian standing there.
"Wuxian?" Professor Xui Ching called out, his voice slightly startled.
Wei Ying flinched a little, caught off guard, but quickly composed himself. His eyes shifted from the professor to the girl, who had now turned to face him fully.
