A red car came to a halt at the campus gates. Wangji stepped out quickly, adjusting his coat as he walked with purposeful strides toward Lan Xichen’s office. His mind raced with worry—Xichen had never called him in such an urgent tone before.
What happened?
Why did he sound so serious?
Could it be Wei Ying? Is he in trouble?
The very thought made his chest tighten. He quickened his pace.
He reached the office door, which was already half open. Without hesitation, he pushed it gently and stepped inside.
Xichen stood by the window, his expression clouded with deep concern. One glance at his brother’s face, and Wangji knew—this wasn’t just urgent. It was serious.
“Ge,” Wangji called out softly.
Xichen turned, snapped out of his thoughts. “Wangji. You’re here.”
“What happened?” Wangji asked immediately, voice sharp with tension. He didn’t waste time with pleasantries.
Xichen took a breath. He knew he had to explain everything—but also knew how protective Wangji could be when it came to the people he loved. And in this case, the situation was delicate.
“Wangji, before I say anything, I need your word,” Xichen said, voice calm but firm. “You must listen to everything first and not act on impulse.”
Wangji frowned. “Ge… what is going on?”
“Please, Wangji,” Xichen said more firmly this time. “Trust me. Just promise me you’ll hear it all before reacting.”
That tone. Wangji had only heard it when things were truly serious. His heart pounded. He gave a short nod. “Okay, Ge. You have my word—I’ll listen and won’t be impulsive.”
“Good.” Xichen motioned toward the chairs. “Come, sit.”
They both sat at the table. Wangji watched his brother closely, the tension thick in the air.
Xichen exhaled and began to speak.
"Xui Ren," Xichen said firmly. Just the name made Wangji’s expression twitched.
"She’s the sister of my colleague, Professor Xui Ching. I just found out about it."
Lan Wangji gave a silent nod, knowing there is more to say.
"Wuxian met her while he was meeting Xui Ching for his project report. She insulted him… humiliated him… and even slapped him," Xichen explained.
"What the hell? How dare she?" Wangji’s anger flared instantly. "Where is my Wei Ying? I want to see him now," he said, already rising from his seat.
"Wangji, please listen first," Xichen urged. "Wuxian is in Xui Ching’s office—just next to mine. But that’s not the only issue. There’s something more serious."
Wangji paused, turning back with a frown.
"She claimed she’s pregnant… and that it’s your child," Xichen said carefully.
"What kind of fuck is this?" Wangji’s voice was full of disbelief and rising frustration.
"Have you ever… slept with her?" Xichen asked cautiously.
"I did," Wangji admitted, his tone flat. "But I’m damn sure that child is not mine."
Xichen studied his brother’s face and nodded. “I knew it." Xichen tool pause. "She showed some intimate photos to Wuxian—photos of you and her. And now… Wuxian isn’t speaking to anyone. He was devastated."
