It was a Good Day

The dawn of yet another day on the Pearl Harbor base, similar to all before it and hopefully all after it. As for one particular person, she was already up bright and early, much to her chagrin thanks to the voice in her head.

"We need to get you up and going early so you can get more training in."

"Mom, it's Saturday..."

"And Abyssals don't skip their days for killing people do they?"

New Jersey closed the door to her bathroom, yawning and facing the mirror to see how tussled she looked after sleep. She hated waking up early, but the nagging from her mom in her head always gets her up early, and she's still not use to it after having her in there since her creation.

She splashed water onto her face and began to pick apart each imperfection, from the eye crusts to the messy hair and any dirt that may have gathered from her long night of sleep. Soon enough, with the brushing of her teeth, she both looked and actually felt ready to start the day properly.

With the morning prep done, and a few more minutes to don that uniform(which Kaoru despised with how much it showed), New Jersey was off to start her day. Her coat hung loose from her shoulders and flapped in the open air from the hall windows, and to be honest?

Today was gonna be a good day.

She opened the doors of the dormitory, letting the sunshine hit her face and bring with it all the warmth that comes along with. "Oh yeah...today's gonna be great~."

With a pep in her step, Jersey went out into the light and welcomed the sound to her ears, each whisper of the wind carrying with it the seagulls and waves to mark the sun's progress across the sky. She could even see some of the Kansen already out and about, enjoying the morning just as she was.

In fact, one in particular was one she was getting close too. "Hey Bremmy!"

"Hm?" Bremerton looked up from her breakfast, smiling as Jersey approached. "Morning NJ! You're looking extra chipper, something go right?"

"Nah, just the sun hitting right today."

"Oooh, I get that one. Feels nice and warm."

Jersey plopped down beside her, settling in as Bremerton handed her a chocolate bar to snack on. The two sat and watched the skies, eating their food while the bird flew this way and that above them in their own ventures for food.

"So Bremmy, when are we heading out for another mission again?"

"I dunno, they don't usually tell me until it's time to go."

"Ugh, I hate when they do that..." Jersey brought her phone out to pass the time a little bit, checking the news to see about anything that's happened thus far.

Another minor attack...new weapons designed to kill Abyssals, let's see how well those turn out...winged figure spotted...

"Wait, what?"

"What's wrong?"

Jersey held out her phone to Bremerton, who looked at the article about the winged being. She read it for a moment before scoffing.

"Really? Moth man? Are people trying to paint Urban legends as real things now, just coated in Abyss stuff?"

"With the weird things we've seen, I wouldn't be surprised if Moth man turns out to be an Abyssal."

"You and me both...oh! I forgot!" Bremerton stood up quickly, chowing down on her food quicker and tossing the papers into the bin.

Jersey stood up too, putting her phone away and giving Bremerton a questioning look. The Cruiser tried to speak, but her mouth was too full so she held a finger up and dealt with that first.
