Hyde sped ahead well in front of the man and halted. Then, he raised one foot and kicked.
The man hadn't realized that Hyde used his ability to rush forward. He received a face full of Hyde's shin, forcing him to stop abruptly. He crashed and bounced off the surface of the ground roughly.
Hyde repositioned himself and huffed softly.
The man, who was dazed by the impact, shook his head. He pushed himself off the dirt and spat out a tooth. He glared at Hyde and balled his fists.
"That's enough." Hyde relaxed his shoulders. "You've got something that doesn't belong to you, give it back or—"
The man raised his fist and punched Hyde in the face, sending him back quite a bit. While Hyde registered that the man had struck him, he pulled out one of his swords and raised the tip toward the villager.
"Oh, you're done." Hyde spat. "You're freaking done."
"Get out of my way." The man seethed. "Put the toy down and run away, small man." He slapped the blade away from his face, and Hyde's nose flared.
He swiped his sword, and the villager backed away. A long strand of his hair was cut. Like a feather, it danced and swirled around until it landed at their feet.
"Not a toy." Hyde corrected him. "Not so tough now, huh, big guy?"
He stepped forward. "I'll say it one more time. Give it back."
"Or what?"
"You won't live to say your next words." Hyde shot back.
The man rolled his eyes and spun around. The move was like a dance, smooth and sound, and it caught Hyde off guard. He grabbed onto Hyde's bicep and flung him aside.
Hyde used his left foot to pitch into the road and countered. The two men were busy displaying their strength as they spun and pushed against where gravity led them.
"Shite." Hyde sneered.
"Had enough?" The villager responded bitterly.
"The heck are they feeding you? Rocks?" Hyde grunted softly.
The man managed to elbow Hyde in the stomach before spinning away. Hyde fell forward. The man ran off.
Harper eventually caught up to Hyde, who was spitting out grass that went into his mouth.
"What happened?" She threw herself next to him and observed him for injuries.
"I'm gonna kill him."
"You didn't catch him?!"
"Oh, no I did, I'm just taking a rest while he skips about."
"Hyde! How did you not catch him!?"
"He slipped away. It happens." Hyde stood up and brushed himself off.
"It happens?! You never fail to catch people! Don't give me that bullcrap!"
Before he could respond, Yanpu ran by. Hyde felt a chill go down his arms and turned to see what would happen. Yanpu jumped up before planting both of his feet back onto the dirt.
A red-colored glow illuminated a trail forward, and the villager who was getting away suddenly was thrown into the air before colliding with the road.
"Woah." Hyde took a step back in awe.
Yanpu rushed toward the man, and Harper ran after him. "Yani! Wait! Don't just go ahead!"
"Hold on, I've gotta see this." Hyde pulled Harper back.
