"So? What do you think?" Harper brushed Yanpu's bangs out of his eyes with her fingers. As her thumb brushed against his ear, Yanpu took a look at himself in the mirror.

His hair which was once below his shoulders was now cut short. The bottoms of the front of his strands fell against his jawline, while the straight ends on his neck were much shorter.

He grabbed a lock of his hair and brushed it behind his ear to get a better view of his new style.

"Not bad, huh?" Harper turned his face using her finger. "It suits you."

"Really?" Yanpu raised a brow, not completely sure that he liked it. He always had long hair. It was never cut, as no blade ever touched his head.

"Absolutely." Harper smiled. "You're so much cuter. Aw..." She pinched his cheeks playfully. She could see his big brown eyes, and his thick black eyebrows. With the new style, she was starting to see major differences between Hyde and Yanpu.

Yanpu's stare was gentle and aloof, while Hyde's carried more mystery. Yanpu's lips were curled slightly upward, making his appearance more approachable.

With the new look, Harper could tell that Yanpu was still that little boy she raised the moment he had finished incubating.

Yanpu pulled away from her. He wasn't a fan of her pinching. Before Harper could say anything about it, the door to the front opened, and in strode Hyde with a sour scowl on his face.

Both Harper and Yanpu hadn't seen him for a week.

That night when he kissed her, Harper struggled to fall asleep. The next morning, Hyde was gone. But he left his swords by the mat, which prevented her from worrying that he abandoned them.

As the days went by, Harper's worries about his well-being worsened. She feared that he had ended up somewhere half-dead, or worse.

So to see him walking into the home suddenly was a shock. She wanted to scream at him for causing her so much anxiety.

But upon watching him let himself plop onto the couch with a heavy sigh, she held back.

"Yani, go and take Socks out to run around. He's been cooped up in the room all morning." Harper ushered him.

"Okay!" Yanpu nodded and jogged toward the bedroom. He opened the door, and the whilfox rushed out happily. Yanpu quickly followed him out of the exit, but momentarily stopped to glance at Hyde before leaving.

When Yanpu was outside, Harper brushed off her skirt and walked over to the couch.

"Hyde,"

"The payment for the rent next month is all here." Hyde placed a bunch of talents on the stool in front of him, before easing back against the cushion.

"Are you okay?"

"Fine," Hyde dismissed.

"You look..." Harper grabbed onto his arm to examine the color of his skin. "Pale..."

He looked like he had seen a ghost. Had he eaten? Was he drinking enough water? Why did it look like he needed sustenance?

Hyde snatched his arm away and used his hands to brush his hair back.

Harper moved her eyes to his chest. She wanted to take a look at his scar, but his other hand was sprawled over it. "Are you hungry?"

"No."

"Thirsty?"

"No."

"Are you sure?"

"If I wasn't sure, I wouldn't have rejected you twice."
