Harper counted the small thin sticks in her hands carefully. Akamau had given them to her. The instructions she was given were clear. Harper was to take a single stick, pee on it, and place it in the grass outside. If the stick changes to a light shade of color, she should be worried.

If it remained the same, she could be at ease. She held the sticks to her heart and said a prayer. She hoped so badly that her dizziness wasn't a symptom of the worst-case scenario. What would Hyde even say to her? Surely, he'd be livid.

And it was partially her fault. There wasn't enough research. She assumed that because he was incubated and infused with a dangerous mineral, he wouldn't have any ability to repopulate.

And he never mentioned any problems with his previous partners. But the chances of him talking about his past playmates were extremely low anyway.

Harper had placed 2 sticks in the grass. The sun was setting, but a little bit of light was shining on her side. Yanpu was still out, and so were Hyde and Harald. Now was the perfect time to check.

She waited 5 minutes and then 10 more. How long was she supposed to wait for? That part she didn't ask about.

A few more minutes went by and Harper blinked. She saw the dark pigment get lighter. Her heart sank and the color left her face. The other sticks showed the same, confirming her worst fear.

Harper reached for her stomach and wrapped her arms around herself tightly. She started to really think about what it would be like to become a mother. Though she considered Yanpu as her son, having a child that was biologically related was next level.

She believed in incubation. But after spending time in Itaria, she really wondered what it would be like to have a child of her own by her own efforts. She was also worried for its health. Would her future child be sick because of Hyde's DNA?

There was a lot to consider. As if on cue, someone tapped her shoulders. She jumped and turned around, facing directly with the devil himself. Hyde eyed her strangely, waiting for Harald to leave their vicinity.

"You're feeling better," Hyde mumbled.

"Um... a little."

"As long as you're not dead..." Hyde hummed.

"Hyde," Harper clenched her fists tight. She caught his attention before he left. He turned around slowly. "I have something to tell you."

"I have something to say too." Hyde raised his shoulders. "But you go first."

No secrets, Harper voiced to herself. She hammered her chest, trying to force it out.

"I'm..." Harper took one quick glance at the sticks again. "I'm pregnant."

Her words were clear. And to her, it felt like they sliced through the thick hostile tension between them. She had winced and looked at her feet, preparing to hear the worst response from him. But there was a few seconds of silence.

When she looked back up at him, she was surprised to see that the look on his face wasn't baffled but rather amused. Hyde bursted into a fit of laughter and it came out hearty.

His laughter didn't stop. She even saw a tear stroll down his face. "I'm serious, Hyde! This isn't something to laugh about!"

"Harper," He finally calmed down to catch his breath. "You're not pregnant."

"I am! And I know you're not gonna like it, but—"

"Unless you've been around other men on this speck of land," He wiped his face, chuckling still. "You're not."
