Harper casually walked into the bathroom and froze mid-step when her eyes met Hyde's well-toned upper half. His hair was wet and slicked back neatly. In his mouth was a toothbrush.
"Oh!" Harper huffed, a bit surprised that he was in there. She didn't hear anything, so she assumed he was elsewhere. "I don't mean to intrude. I'm just putting these towels away."
"You're so unbothered now," Hyde smirked. "Correct me if I'm wrong. Actually? Don't."
Hyde placed his hands on his waist. Only a towel was covering his lower half. His muscles flexed even with such casual movement. "You're getting bolder."
"Bolder?"
"Just because we play around once now and then doesn't mean I have no right to privacy." Hyde shrugged. "If you are looking for me, just ask politely."
"I don't know what you're implying. Neither do I care." Harper rolled her eyes. "I'm only here to put these towels away."
"Yeah, okay." Hyde snorted.
"I'm serious."
"And I said, okay."
"I wasn't looking for you. I didn't even know you were in here."
"Okay."
Harper bit the inside of her cheeks. 'Let it go. Let it go, Harper' She thought to herself and carried the stack of towels over to the railing. There, she hung three towels, two large and one smaller over a hanging rail that was placed above the stone bath.
As she straightened her posture, a memory shoved its way to the front of her mind. She had been thinking of it for a while.
Part of her knew the reaction she would receive if she voiced her thoughts, but it was hurting her not to say anything.
"Hyde!" Harper spun around to face him. His eyebrow raised as he paused washing his face in the sink.
"Yes?"
"I know you're not gonna wanna hear this but—"
"Then don't say it." He tightened the towel around his waist. He brushed by her to reach for his clothes, folded neatly by the end of the tub.
"I have to."
"Do you?"
"Yes!"
"Is it important? No, let me rephrase that." Hyde crossed his arms over his chest. "Is it a matter of life and death? With you, I have to clarify. There's not much sense in me wasting my time with something trivial."
"If you respected me, anything I say would be considered important."
"For the sake of keeping the peace, I'll pretend that this time what you have to say is important."
"Next week," Harper started nervously, choosing to ignore Hyde's annoying remark. "It's Yanpu's birthday."
When Harper raised her head to observe, she was a bit confused to see him there with the most unreadable expression she'd ever seen. She expected him to throw a hissy fit.
But his eyes just remained on her with zero hints of emotion in them.
"I know that you don't care, but...it's going to be rough on him. I can't believe it's been a year already since you... well, you know."
Nothing. Not even a blink. Was he even breathing?
"Can't you say something?"
"What do you want me to say?" Hyde finally spoke, breaking the awkward silence.
