"Do you think that'll fit him?" Harper held up a small sleeveless tank top to Hyde's chest.
They talked more about her job on the way to the marketplace. Hyde felt uneasy, but he was a bit content that Harper wouldn't lie about it anymore.
He was starting to put faith in her good intentions. But she wasn't completely off the hook. He thought of getting back at her. Just because she didn't have any ill will, didn't mean he'd forgiven her for keeping secrets and sneaking around.
"Dunno." Hyde nudged the cloth away with his arm. He looked extremely bored.
"If you're not gonna take me seriously, you can leave." Harper pouted, going through the various children's clothes spread across the table.
"Sure." Hyde took a step back, but Harper latched onto his wrist.
"Wait! You're joking, right?"
"No. I didn't come here to shop, so I'm leaving."
"Hyde, can't you just—"
"I don't care about what the brat wears. Stop trying to get me to!" His voice was loud enough to catch the attention of various women also picking out clothes for their children.
They all looked at both Harper and Hyde before uttering harsh words about the two in Paradisian language. Harper could've sworn she heard someone say to be weary of husbands like Hyde under their breath.
Harper clutched onto the shirt in embarrassment. "Fine," She tossed two shirts over her arm and a few grass skirts over her shoulders. "Just Go."
"I'm not his father," Hyde mumbled softly.
"I understand that, Hyde. So leave. Go back to the shed."
"I'm just clarifying,"
"You don't have to clarify that you don't want any involvement in helping your little brother. Do you have to embarrass me further?"
"Alright, so I guess I'm off then," Hyde took offense to her words. He stated the truth. What right did she have to feel embarrassed because of him?
"Great. Bye." Harper kept her eyes on the merchandise, not even bothering to put effort into her farewell. That made Hyde's blood boil.
"Fix your attitude."
"Aren't you leaving yet? Why are you still here?"
"I am leaving!"
"Then go,"
"I will!"
"Okay then."
Hyde stormed off but stopped a couple of yards away. He realized something. Why the heck was he walking away without having the last word? Why did her response irritate him so much?
She wasn't in the right. He was still upset with her for lying to him. "Oh for shites sake!"
Hyde brushed his hair out of his face and stormed right back over to Harper. He snatched the clothes she collected off of her and tossed them back onto the table carelessly.
"What are you doing!?" Harper hissed, yanking the clothes back.
"These shirts are too small for him." Hyde spat and picked up a few sleeveless shirts, made of cotton. They were probably imported. He tossed them over his arm. "If you're gonna do this correctly, at least memorize his body proportions."
"Excuse me?" Harper scoffed. "I thought you didn't care!"
"I don't. I just don't wanna hear you complain later about your mistake. I also don't want you to waste any money. If you bought the wrong thing, making up for it would come out of my pocket."
