A day had passed and Hyde was finally able to get to the market on his day off. While Harald wasted his time keeping an eye on Harper, Hyde thought it would be productive to find parts for the pod they crash-landed in.
It just so happened that new shipments were coming in today. So right after his fisherman job, he made his way to the other side of the village to scavenge around.
A large ship was docked by the market. Hyde noticed upon arriving. To his left, we're market stalls surrounded by women hunting for the newest clothes from the mainland. But on the right, only a few men and women were eyeing some of the sheets of metal, plastics, and tools scattered about on a long log table.
He brushed his fingers across some of the glossy metals, strolling down until he reached the end of the table. Disappointed because what he was looking for wasn't there, he turned back in the direction of the village center.
But a stall across from him caught his eye before he could step forward. He spotted batteries, the kind needed to boot up a car made in Westona, or Krahagh. There was a set of 5 laid out on the tablet neatly.
Hyde touched one and raised it to take a closer look. It was exactly what he wanted. The sides of it were coated in Puron. All 5 would be enough to power the pod so it could travel to Krahagh and back.
"How much?" Hyde spoke up, and an older man with long pepper colored wavy hair stepped forward. The shadow went away as he stepped into the light, revealing his full face and frame.
Hyde immediately could tell he was a Paradisian from the mainland. The attire he wore covered more. He had leather sandals, cotton slacks, and a loose top. On biceps arms were golden bands that clung to his skin.
With a slight smirk, he grabbed the battery from Hyde and twirled it in his fingers. "Young man, do you even know what this does?"
"That's for me to know, and you to find your way out of my business." Hyde raised a brow. "Answer the question."
"This here is a fine piece of work." He tossed the battery to his other hand playfully and caught it. He wasn't sure how to react to Hyde's tone. "It's gonna cost a lot. About 600 talents each."
"600," Hyde bit his tongue. "How much for the set?"
"If you buy within the week, the deal for the set is 2,000."
Hyde swore. It would take him 4 more months to pay for all 5. He raked his fingers through his hair, brushed his long bangs out of his face, and narrowed his eyes. "If I pay 300 talents today, can I pay the rest off over time?"
"Lad, if you aren't going to take this business of mine seriously, you're better off looking in the opposite direction." The man crossed his arms, offended that he would even suggest such an atrocity. While Hyde could care less, he still understood how much value this particular stall had over the others.
"I'll find the money." Hyde slapped his fingers against the surface of the stall. He pointed at the batteries. "Don't sell them until you see my face again."
"No promises."
"And there's no guarantee you'll make it off this island alive if you do." Hyde spat, causing the man to shiver at the threat. He wasn't sure, but there was something inside of him that told him not to get on Hyde's bad side.
Hyde stormed away, calculating in his mind the amount of time he had to come up with 2000 talents. How would he get the money?
He suddenly remembered that Harper and he had saved up enough talents for an emergency fund. There was not much use of it now, since he had planned on going to Krahagh soon.
