"I don't wanna." Yanpu bravely stood up to Hyde.

He knew how much Harper hated when he used his abilities. He didn't want to disappoint her, especially not now, since she was visibly angry with Hyde.

"I didn't ask what you wanted to do," Hyde growled and took a dangerous step in the child's direction. His fingers twitched, they were aching to grab the handle of his sword and hack him across the chest with it.

"No," Yanpu repeated, firmly establishing the boundary.

"Why not?"

"Because,"

"You may be 4 years old, but you're smart enough to use full sentences. You'd better have a good reason."

Yanpu slouched and pouted. "I don't wanna be like you."

"You said that before," Hyde grumbled to himself, completely bored of hearing such a cliched response. "Let's think realistically."

Hyde crouched down to his height in a squat. "Our DNA matches and both of us have the same blood type, unlike the rest of Westona. No matter how much you don't want to acknowledge it, you and I are going to share a lot of similarities."

"I'm nothing like you." Yanpu spat.

"I would say that hurts, but I could care less. Don't bullshite yourself. One day you're going to be forced into a situation where you'll have to use those abilities."

"No, I won't."

"Keep telling yourself that. I assure you, it won't help you in the future." Hyde scoffed. "In all honesty, I'm doing this to help you."

"Why would you?"

"That's a good question," Hyde answered monotonously.

He wasn't sure why. He didn't care at all about Yanpu's well-being, at least, that's what he thought. Maybe he was ashamed that someone with the same Puron that runs through his blood was always getting beat up by his peers.

Whatever the reason was, Hyde felt that this was important. He already tried training Yanpu to use his powers before, but this time he was using a different approach.

"Let's try this another time." Hyde brushed off his pants when he stood. "You've gotta be up early for school."

The odd change of subject surprised Yanpu. He was expecting to fight Hyde on his refusal.

"Tomorrow, you're going to run laps around the village," Hyde stated. For the sake of ending the conversation, Yanpu didn't refuse.

Hyde walked off in the direction of their hut, and Yanpu wasn't too far behind him.

The next afternoon, Hyde was at his spearfishing job resurfacing from the water with a spear full of fish. He brushed his wet hair back, cursing when his fingers got caught in between strands.

The saltwater was starting to make his hair lock up. He needed to find some product on this island that would protect his hair. The last thing he wanted was tangles or knots disturbing his appearance.

Hyde swam over to the shore and climbed out of the water, before taking what he gathered off his spear and tossing them in a crate. One of his coworkers was tracking the weight of all the fish inside to make sure Hyde met his quota for the day.

He nodded in approval with a big smile. As always, Hyde went over his requirements in a short amount of time. Hyde placed the spear inside a barrel full of other ones and squeezed the water out of his long hair.
