"Because he was the only person who ever chose me"

(Finally)
The Miss Mystic Falls Pageant. An annual event where Mystic Falls's most prominent young girls competed for the title of Miss Mystic Falls, after months of preparing and practicing.
One year ago Brooklyn Forbes had returned to Mystic Falls to compete in the Pageant and back then her biggest concern had been how her recently-recovered spine would handle the pressures of being back home, and how much school work she would have to catch up on after nine months away.
Now, an entire year had passed since that day and Brooke Forbes was back at the Miss Mystic Falls Pageant, and her entire world had changed. She was still a 17 year old girl, but she and her twin sister were vampires who would never be older than that. Back then Caroline had been an innocent young girl dating star quarterback Matt Donovan, dreaming of their white-picket fence future, and Brooke had been harbouring a crush on their longtime friend Tyler Lockwood. Now Caroline was dating werewolf Tyler Lockwood, while the Original vampire Kol Mikaelson fancied her, and Brooke was completely infatuated (and in denial about it) by the Original hybrid Klaus Mikaelson. Their father Bill Forbes had not seen her in years, and now he was gone, leaving his daughters alone to navigate their new existence.
Brooke stood in the Lockwood's sweeping garden overlooking the lake as she considered how much her life had changed in the last twelve months. She hadn't known any of the Mikaelsons, or the Salvatores, and the supernatural world had been nothing but a story told in movies and books.
But it was apart of her now and she was apart of it.
Unless she took the cure. It was an option she now had, which she had never even considered possible before. However, now there was a chance she could walk away from it all. If Brooke had been told there was a cure in the first weeks after becoming a vampire, she would have taken it without a second thought, and even now her friends and family would all expect her to want to. However, Brooke no longer wanted to change. Despite all of the dangers, near-death experiences, and problems she and her friends had endured, Brooke was proud of the girl she had become. Being a vampire made her physically stronger, faster, and more agile, but as a person she had become tougher, braver, and more confident in herself, and she didn't want to walk away from it anymore.
"Why are those flowers there? They're supposed to be on the judges table! And who approved these tablecloths? They're hideous! Go and find some lighter ones and no lace on them! And where are the rest of my volunteers?!"
Brooke looked over at her sister, who, as the reigning Miss Mystic Falls, was in charge of organising tomorrow's event, and she taking out all of her frustrations on the terrified pageant volunteers.
At least Caroline's bossiness had never changed, she thought fondly.
Caroline marched over to her, huffing and scribbling down notes on her clipboard, and she glared at her sister. "And why are you just standing around? You're supposed to be setting up the makeup tables inside!"
