Katherine's threat was not to be taken lightly after all, and Brooke had learned that the hard way. She had hoped that she would have some time to get the moonstone off of her friends, but Katherine was quick, and had gone straight to evil.
She had paid Caroline a menacing visit, and Brooke's sister was incredibly shaken up, and sitting on the Salvatore sofa.
Brooke had wrapped an arm around her shoulders, and Damon had passed her a large glass of bourbon.
"I'm still shaking" the blonde whispered as she sipped the amber liquid
Having heard the voices from inside the library, Stefan had come into the room, and upon seeing Caroline's nervous state he frowned "What happened?"
His brother sighed, and nodded at the younger blonde "Go ahead, tell him. You're gonna love this"
All eyes turned to Caroline, who said "I saw Katherine today"
"Where?" asked Stefan
She sighed "At the grill. I just stopped by to gawk and... stare at Matt... because he's not speaking to me but I don't know where we are, and I'm trying to see if he has any interest at all in-"
"-Skip the teen drama and get to the point" said Damon
Caroline flushed pink. "Then I had to pretend to use the bathroom even though I didn't really have to go because I'm an idiot. And in there I saw Katherine, and she grabbed me and told me to deliver a message for her"
Stefan furrowed his brows "What was the message?"
She bit her lip, and nervously said "She told me to tell you that she wants the moonstone or she will 'rip this town apart until it rains blood'"
Damon nodded "Tell him the rest of it"
"Tonight, at the masquerade ball" she finished
Brooke sighed, putting her head in her hands. If she had just given Katherine the moonstone then her sister and mother wouldn't be in danger, but she couldn't just hand it over without alarming her friends, so the only other way to get it was to go behind their backs.
What surprised her though was that Stefan chuckled "She wants to do it in public. Killing Mason threw off her guard"
His brother grinned "She's running scared. What she did to Jenna was desperate. She's out of tricks"
Katherine had also attacked Jenna last night, and Brooke was incredibly afraid because of it now. Half of the reason she was really here was to try and find it.
"We can't underestimate her. We have to play this smarter than her" said Stefan
"Can't we just give her the moonstone so she'll leave? In case you haven't noticed, my sister is in danger and I'd like to stop this before she or my mother end up dead" asked Brooke
