Ever since Elijah had been woken up, Brooke felt like she was walking on Cloud Nine all day every day. She had been fighting for this for months and now he was here, and she was on top of the moon.

The only thing that was dampening her mood was the fact that her father was still in town.

She had hoped not to continue to see him, but since he was being discharged from the hospital today Liz had insisted that both of her daughters go and collect him, despite Brooke's hatred for her father.

Brooke was trying to delay the entire thing by stalling her breakfast, which was painfully obvious.

"Come on" Caroline said to her twin sister for the hundredth time

"Imstilleatingletmefinish" she mumbled through a mouthful of waffle. Caroline, not understanding a word of it, only looked at her in confusion so Brooke swallowed down the food in her mouth and repeated herself, "I'm still eating let me finish" she grumbled

She gestured to her sister's empty fork "You aren't eating now"

"Hey, you guys are still here?" Liz said to her daughters as she entered the room "You should get going soon, he'll be discharged soon"

Brooke mumbled something incomprehensible which sounded similar to 'dickhead', eliciting a reproachful smile from her mother.

"Where are you off to? I thought you didn't have work for another hour" said Caroline.

The Sherriff sighed, "You really can't mention this to anybody yet, but you both know that our medical examiner was murdered the night of the Wickery Bridge fundraiser right?"

Brooke nodded, "Yeah. Brian Walters. Why?"

"Weive been investigating." she said "Someone drove this stake through his heart." She held up a plastic bag with a bloody stake inside, making her daughters grimace. "And the worst part is that forensics ran it for prints and found only one clean set. Elena's."

Brooke's fork clattered against her plate loudly, and Caroline spat out her orange juice.

"WHAT?"

"You think Elena killed somebody?!"

She shook her head "No. But it's the only lead I have. Just please keep this quiet until we know more, I really don't want this getting out yet"

Her daughters nodded, "Yeah of course,"

Liz smiled gratefully and then grabbed her bag and rushed out to the front door, leaving the twins in a stunned silence.

"Suddenly picking up dad sounds like the fun part of my day" muttered Brooke.

Caroline scowled, and the two girls got up from their stools and went to climb into Brooke's car to drive to the hospital for their dad.

He had recovered from Tyler's attack, and Brooke was hoping that the faster they got him out of the hospital the faster he would leave town and return to his boyfriend, leaving their family in peace.
