Brooke's feet had carried her without the young girl realising. One minute she had been standing in her living room, and the next she was across Mystic Falls standing in front of the front doors to the Mikaelson home.

Her hand reached up to the door handle, but the young vampire froze before she could turn it.

Somewhere out there was Klaus. He was the reason Elijah was awake, and recently he had been there for her more than any of her own friends. He protected her when nobody else would and the young girl could not ignore the doubt tugging at her heart. She had been fighting for Elijah's life for months and she should have been happier that he was finally awake, but it felt nothing like she had been expecting.

She had dreamt it to be a monumental moment where she would feel happier than ever before and everything she had given up would feel worth it.

However, standing on the doorstep her heart wasn't completely in it. She swallowed her pain down and pushed open the door, feeling her doubts wash away when the doors swung shut behind her.

This was where she was supposed to be. This was where she wanted to be.

She took a step forwards, looking around for any sign of Elijah. A thud came from the kitchen so Brooke cautiously went towards it.

Inside, the kitchen was littered with several finished blood bags, and Brooke was met with the back of none other than Elijah Mikaelson. Seeing him in person again after so long made her suck in a sharp breath, and his ears obviously picked it up, causing him to turn around and see the young vampire.

It had been months since the two of them saw each other, and it felt strange now. To Brooke, so much had happened since.

She had gone away for the entire summer with Klaus and Stefan, and in that time she and Klaus had become closer, which was the hardest thing for even her to understand. But to Elijah, it had only been one moment.

"Brooke" he said, his voice shocked and hoarse.

She nodded numbly, the surprise still overwhelming her "You're here"

"How?" he asked "I woke up and the dagger was gone from my chest, and no sign of anybody else in the house"

Brooke opened her jacket and withdrew the silver dagger from her inside pocket. The original stepped backward instinctively, so the girl twirled it around so that the point was facing her.

"Klaus gave it to me. He told me to come find you." she explained

Elijah narrowed his eyes "My brother does not simply do kind things for others. So why would he do that for me?"

The girl smiled, "It's my birthday. And Klaus owed me one."

"He never does something without expecting a favour in return-"
