Klaus had been gone from Mystic Falls for nearly two days, and in that time Brooke had discovered that living in Mystic Falls without him actually wasn't as difficult as she had imagined. Of course she missed having his presence around her and that feeling of safety she had whenever he was near, but she also enjoyed being able to act like a normal teenage girl again by going to school, then cheerleading practice, and then coming home and doing her homework before bed.
However, her escape from the supernatural drama engulfing Mystic Falls was short lived because on the third day she was woken up by her phone ringing incessantly on her nightstand.
Groaning, Brooke patted her hand out to her right until her fingers closed around her phone, which she brought to her ear as she pressed answer.
"Hello?" she asked tiredly, rubbing her tired eyes to wake up.
"Brooke, thank God" came a relieved sigh from Klaus.
Brooke frowned "What's going on?"
"Connor broke out of my house" he hissed "The damn hunter killed one of my hybrids and my others can't find him, and I was worried you had been at my house when he escaped"
She chuckled, "Nik, I don't hang around your house all day sniffing your pillows when you're gone"
On the other end of the phone Klaus laughed "Well that's hard for me to know when you're rather attached to my house when I'm there, darling"
"That's because I like spending time with Kol. He's my favourite of your family." she replied with a small grin.
"Then you might be interested to know that I am much better company" he said and she could imagine the smirk on his face as he did.
Brooke rolled her eyes, "Alright I'm going to go have breakfast now, you get back to the Italian sunshine. Try and keep Kol from killing too many locals. Goodbye, Nik"
"Goodbye, sunshine" he replied, and then the call ended.
Brooke smiled and climbed out of bed and headed for her shower first. She did a full hair and body wash, and then dried her hair and went downstairs for breakfast in the kitchen, where Caroline was sitting eating a toasted waffle.
"Morning" she said to her twin as she grabbed a bagel from the cupboard.
"Morning" Caroline replied, grinning down at her food.
Brooke eyed her curiously as she sliced her bagel and put it in the toaster, and not once did Caroline's cheeky grin waver. "Okay, what's up with you? You're smiling like you just won the lottery"
Her sister laughed, "I wish. But I heard something interesting this morning"
"What?" asked Brooke "Did Tyler finally decide to stop acting like an ass?"
