Hospitals. They were a place Brooke was all too familiar with at the moment, and even unconscious she knew she was in one, by the smell before she even opened her eyes or heard anything.
First came the horrible familiar stench of steriliser and detergent, and then came the familiar beep from her heart monitor.
For a moment Brooke worried that her past week in Mystic Falls had been nothing but a dream and that she had actually never left New York. However, as soon as her eyes were open she knew she was in the Mystic Falls hospital.
She scrunched her eyes to try adjust to the light, groaning as she sat up.
The first thing she did was lift her bandaged right hand to her forehead, where she could feel a plaster. But the strange thing was that upon putting some pressure on the plaster she couldn't feel an injury underneath.
However, she chalked it down to the painkillers and drugs they must have had her on.
Brooke reached for the cup of water on her bedside table and gulped down its contents, relieved at the sensation of it relieving her dry throat.
Then, she looked around and realised she was in a double room, and that on the other bed, only about a metre from hers, was her sister, sitting up and eating something. "Brooke!" she beamed "Thank god! I was worried you wouldn't wake up soon and your food would go cold. I told them to leave it on your table. How are you feeling?"
Brooke chuckled and sat upright too. "I'm good surprisingly, you?"
"I feel fine" nodded Caroline "A little bit sore but I'm alright."
Brooke reached for her table and moved it around to be in front of her so that she could dig into the food on her plate. "Do you, um, remember last night?"
Her sister sighed. "Bits. I remember Tyler screaming losing control of the car, and then us hitting the wall. I know I was still awake after it but it was just blurry and then I fainted I think"
"How long have you been awake?" she asked
Caroline gestured to their small TV screen. "Long enough to figure out that they have Jersey Shore on"
Brooke laughed, shaking her head in amusement. She was going to make a comment about her sister's Jersey Shore addiction but then the door to the room opened and in came Bonnie and Matt
"Brooke! Caroline!"
Since Caroline was closest to the door both of them greeted her first, before going over to see Brooke as well.
"How are you guys?" asked Matt, going to stand back beside his girlfriend
"I feel good" said Brooke "I only wish I really remember last night. I mean the last thing I remember is that wall coming closer and then it's all just dark"
Caroline hummed. "Yeah, I don't even know what happened after that. One minute I felt the crash and then I was out"
Matt squeezed her shoulder "It was bad, both of you. You both were out all night. They brought you guys here and I don't know the details, Brooke, but I know they had to remove some glass from your body, they reset your left shoulder and said you would have some pain in your spine because of last year. Caroline, you spent hours in the operating room. I'm just so glad you guys are okay"
