Brooke and Caroline were both still a little tense after everything that had happened recently. Caroline was feeling guilty about causing some of the drama between Elena and Stefan, and her sister was still kind of annoyed at Katherine for disappearing.
The brunette had stopped by though last night and explained everything to her. Stefan had basically kidnapped her for the day, and Katherine hadn't been able to call her, but to make up for it she filled Brooke in on everything. George Lockwood, Tyler's ancestor, had been a werewolf who Katherine was friends with and he had actually helped Katherine escape the burning church in 1864.
Brooke did feel slightly better now, but her sister was not.
So, neither girl was looking forward to their commitment to the historical society picnic that day.
They had gotten ready to go, and were about to leave the house when they saw their mother stacking the boxes of painting supplies they had arranged.
"Are you off today?" asked Caroline
"The historical society volunteer picnic is today. You're the ones who signed me up" replied Liz
Brooke folded her arms "I know. We just assumed you'd bail"
She sighed "No. I'm gonna spend the whole day with my daughters"
"You're gonna pretend to be a mother?" scoffed Caroline
"I'll bring my gun if it gets rough." Liz said sarcastically, but neither of her daughters were amused. "Come on, give me one day. I've been buried in work mode, I've barely seen you"
Brooke chuckled "Well be warned, she's in a mood"
She jerked her head in Caroline's direction, who scowled. "Goody for me." said Liz "What was Elena doing here so late last night?"
Quickly, Brooke replied "Um, she just needed to talk. Her and Stefan are going trough a rough patch"
Her mother nodded, but she narrowed her eyes at her daughters "Is everything okay with you two?"
"We're fine" said Caroline
Liz hummed. "It's just lately you seem different"
Brooke shrugged "We're not different, we're fine"
Their mother sighed. "I know you think I don't notice these things but I do. What's going on with you?"
Caroline scoffed "You know there's pretending to be a mother and there's reality. Let's not push our luck, okay?"
She grabbed her car keys from the table, and she and her sister walked out of the house.
They both felt bad lying to their mother about what was going on, but she was the town Sheriff, and she hated vampires, so if she found out, then she would have no problem getting rid of her own daughters. So they had to lie, or else they were both done for good.
