"How could you choose him?"
"Because he was the only person who ever chose me"
Brooke Forbes had lived in Mystic Falls her whole life, and had been the 'It Girl' of the town since she was young. Her life had been perfect in every way. Until, one acc...

Warmth was the first thing Brooke felt. Not warmth like the comfort provided by a thick duvet tucked up to her neck, or the feeling of the morning sunlight seeping through the curtains and slowly waking her tired bones. The warmth that she could feel was human and grounding, and laying beside her. She slowly began to wake up and as she stirred she could feel how much her bones ached, but she could also feel that someone's fingers were lightly threading through her hair. Brooke blinked tiredly and looked up, realising that Nik was awake beside her and it was his fingers that played with her long blonde waves.
"Good morning, sunshine" he said. His voice was rough from sleep, but his tone was a soft, with a hint of underlying amusement.
"Hi" Brooke croaked, before clearing her throat to remove the worst of the exhaustion that clawed at her.
Klaus smiled, a rare, soft, unguarded smile that he only showed in these quiet moments where it was only them. "How did you sleep?" He asked, fingers now gently trailing along her bare arms.
"Good" Brooke answered honestly with a nervous smile "Your bed is even comfier than Rebekah's"
He chuckled, "I have been telling you that for some time, love. If you had listened to me sooner then we could have skipped these last few weeks of avoiding the inevitable"
Brooke grinned teasingly, "Last night was inevitable was it?"
Klaus smirked, pulling her closer into his chest and kissing her collarbone. "I think so. Surely even you can't deny that there has been something between us ever since I came to this godforsaken town"
She laughed "Does that include the time where you threatened to kill Kat, held me hostage for an entire summer, and tried to kill my friends?"
"Minor details" he murmured, playfully brushing her skin with his teeth.
She rolled her eyes. "Only you would think that"
Klaus grinned "Well, no matter how it happened you fell into bed with the big bad hybrid anyway"
Brooke sighed and leaned her head back against the pillows "Don't remind me. I'm going to have to deal with the consequences of this later"
She knew it was waiting. The anger, confusion, and outrage her friends would feel when they find out that she had fallen in love with Klaus, and had sex with him, was waiting just outside the Mikaelson home and Brooke didn't think she was ready.
They had been angry enough when she dated Elijah, and with each moment that her friends tried to kill his family and Brooke chose them, they had grown further estranged. Damon may understand her in time, but Stefan, Elena and Bonnie hated Klaus and his entire family with a passion and their hatred would always blind them to seeing how happy Brooke was. Then there was Tyler, who hated Klaus more than anyone and if he heard about Brooke and Klaus he would happily target her to hurt him, and may even go so far as to kill her. And if Tyler turned on her, then Caroline would be forced to choose between her boyfriend and her sister, and Brooke could not handle being the reason why Caroline would lose someone she loved.
