"How could you choose him?"
"Because he was the only person who ever chose me"
Brooke Forbes had lived in Mystic Falls her whole life, and had been the 'It Girl' of the town since she was young. Her life had been perfect in every way. Until, one acc...

Losing Bill Forbes was the most difficult experience Brooke and her sister had ever been through, and Brooke had hoped that her grief would lessen with every passing moment, but she only felt more pain than she imagined.
Deep down she had hoped Elijah may have actually showed up to give her some comfort but there had been no sign of him, which hurt her a lot more than she wanted to admit.
Elijah though, had issues of his own to deal with. To punish Klaus he had woken up his remaining family from their coffins and together they were all making his life hell. But to make his life worse, and all of theirs too, their mother was back as well. Esther kept telling them all that she was here for good reasons, to support her family and had decided the best way to do that was to throw a ball for all of Mystic Falls to attend and see them as a united front.
It was frivolous and unnecessary, but Esther was insisting and so her children had no choice but to go along with her idea and help her get the ball ready. That involved suit and dress fittings, mani pedis, hair styling, makeup, and co-ordinating decorations.
It made the men of the family wonder how women did this all and didn't get bored.
However, the champagne made it slightly more bearable, and Kol had drank so much, which was causing him to enjoy his own turn to be fitted and pampered nearly as much as his sister.
"Rebekah, tell me how handsome I am" he said into the mirror.
She rolled her eyes as she checked her nails "Ah, Kol, you know I can't be compelled"
He scowled, but everybody else in the family laughed and snickered at his expense. All except Klaus, who came storming into the room looking like someone had just ruined his life, and judging by the way he went straight for Rebekah, she may have
"You went after Elena? What is wrong with you?" he barked
The blonde sighed "Here we go"
He clenched his jaw "Do you want another dagger in your heart?"
"Again with the dagger threats? Don't you have any other tricks?" joked Kol and his brother rounded on him
"Oh, go back to staring at yourself"
Kol stepped down from his platform with a scoff "And who are you, my father?"
"No, Kol, but you're in my house" snapped Klaus.
"Then perhaps we should go outside" said Kol, getting dangerously close to him.
Before it could go any further, Esther came into the room and sharply said "Enough! Niklaus, come"
He rolled his eyes, mostly because of how smug Kol looked at seeing Klaus be scolded by their mother like a child, and then followed Esther into another room.
"Rebekah wasn't even out of her box a day before she tried to ruin my life. What happened to peace, acceptance, family?" he asked.
Esther shrugged "You put daggers in their hearts. Do you want them to go down on their knees and kiss your feet for reuniting them?"
