Whatever hopes Brooke had been harbouring about her and Klaus finally getting their chance to be together was quickly squashed when Nik vanished from town the day after he had turned up. He had explained to Brooke that he had to get out, knowing that her friends would never stop trying to harm him, plus he wanted to reunite with his siblings, but Brooke was left behind feeling like crap.

So, in true vampire depression fashion Brooke was wasting away her morning at the bar of the Mystic Grill.

She had taken a bottle of whiskey from over the bar and by the time noon rolled around she was halfway through the strong liquor.

"Well, well, well, I see I've taught you how to handle your emotions well" drawled Damon as he slid onto the stool beside hers.

Brooke chuckled and poured the whiskey into a second glass which she slid over to him "You've rubbed off on me, Damon. It's not a good thing"

"You sound like my brother" he grumbled

"Is that what's brought you here? Family drama?" asked Brooke, and he sighed.

"Something like it. Stefan's convinced he knows how to best help Elena adjust to being a vampire meanwhile he's the most unstable out of all of us and when I try to help he just thinks I'm trying to steal her off him" he explained "What about you? You don't normally drink this early in the day"

Brooke rolled her eyes "That was before Klaus up and left me like a dickhead meanwhile everyone else around me seems to be living in paradise with their perfect fucking relationships"

"Tell me about it" said Damon "But to find a bright side to your misery, I'm glad I have a new drinking buddy since mine is now gone"

"Thanks" she chuckled "And considering how fucked up this town is I'm sure we'll  see each other here more than normal"

"Amen to that" he said as he gently clinked his glass against hers.

Behind him someone loudly cleared their throat and both vampires turned around to see that Liz was standing there looking unimpressed. "I hope that isn't my daughter drinking whiskey before midday I see"

Brooke grinned "Apple juice, mother, don't worry"

She rolled her eyes and sat on the stool on Brooke's other side "Just this once I won't mention it. Because right now I have bigger concerns than this"

She threw a newspaper down on the bar, and both Brooke and Damon read what was written across its front.

"'Faulty gas line leads to tragic explosion at Young farm.' Really?" asked Damon

"Better than 'Town council blown up, police have no suspects'." she bit back "Unless the perpetrator's right next to me"

Damon scoffed "Well, don't look at me. I always take credit for killing people"
