"How could you choose him?"
"Because he was the only person who ever chose me"
Brooke Forbes had lived in Mystic Falls her whole life, and had been the 'It Girl' of the town since she was young. Her life had been perfect in every way. Until, one acc...

Klaus had noticed a subtle difference in Brooke since the hybrids had kidnapped her. She had healed completely thanks to him, but mentally she was still struggling and he wasn't sure why, but he never brought it up and chose to wait patiently until she was ready to talk.
On the other hand, Brooke didn't know how to bring up what had been plaguing her since the attack. She was glad Tyler was no longer sired to Klaus, and she understood why the other hybrids had followed him, but now they were planning a move on Klaus and she was scared that with so many of them working together, they would succeed and she would lose the man she loved. Or, if they failed then Klaus would gladly kill them all, including Tyler, and her sister would lose him, and Brooke would carry that guilt forever.
Even staying in her house made her uncomfortable because firstly, seeing Caroline and knowing that one of them would lose the man they loved because of the other's, clawed at her insides and made her feel sick. They were twins and they always supported each other, but now they were on opposite sides of this fight and one of them would pay the ultimate price. Secondly, Tyler was invited into their home and even though he was Brooke's friend she knew he had a responsibility to his pack, and therefore her life was forfeit to be used as leverage by him or his hybrids.
Due to her overwhelming anxiety Brooke liked staying closer to Nik so the day after the attack she had gone to his house with him and stayed there every day since.
It was odd she realised, experiencing a domestic life with him, but between him, her, and Kol living there the Mikaelson house finally felt like a real home. Even if it was inhabited by two crazy vampires and a homicidal hybrid.
Klaus would cook breakfasts for him and Brooke (despite Kol's whining and insisting he should have some too), they sat across the sofa from each other and read in comfortable silences, Klaus would do his art while Brooke and Kol hung out, and then the three of them ate dinner together every night and the Mikaelsons would amaze her with tales from their adventures across the world over the centuries.
Slowly, day by day, Brooke was feeling more at home there than she did anywhere else. It started with a pair of her shoes in the hallway, then there were books she enjoyed added to the library, then a toothbrush and skincare products in Klaus's bathroom, her favourite snacks in the kitchen, and without telling her Klaus had ordered tons of clothing for her to his place and hung them all up in one half of his wardrobe.
She hadn't even noticed the subtle shift, but Brooke realised she basically lived there now.
It should have felt weird to have basically moved in with her new boyfriend, who had a reputation for being murderous and terrifying, but it wasn't. It felt natural and easy, like she was meant to be there with him.
The only damper on her mood was that Brooke still hadn't told Klaus about what Tyler and his hybrids were planning because as soon as she did, she would be sending Tyler to his death, and she wasn't ready to have his blood on her hands. Tyler had been her friend forever, more than that a few times when they were teenagers, and even though they had gone through some trouble over the years Brooke had always counted on him. So how could she send one of her closest friends to his death?
