“Hey, Heeseung!”
“Yeah, babe?” Heeseung’s voice drifted from the other room, where the clatter of tattoo needles and soft music filled the air.
“Are you ready for our vlog?” Ni-ki called, adjusting his camera on the tripod in the living room. The sunlight streamed in, illuminating the cozy apartment filled with splashes of art.
“Vlog? What vlog?” Heeseung walked in, towel draped around his neck, the faint scent of ink and soap trailing behind him. His eyes narrowed, curiosity piqued.
Niki grinned. “The boyfriend does my makeup challenge! I thought it’d be fun. You know, for my beauty channel!”
Heeseung blinked. “Makeup? Me? Are you serious?”
“Totally serious!” Ni-ki bounced on his toes, excitement bubbling over. “It’ll be hilarious. Just think about it — you, with a brush in hand, trying to figure out how to put eyeliner on me. It’ll be gold!”
Heeseung scratched his head, glancing around as though the answer lay hidden behind the couch. “But I don’t know anything about makeup. Isn’t that your thing?”
“Exactly!” Ni-ki laughed. “That’s what makes it perfect. You’re clueless, and I’m here to guide you.”
“Alright, fine. But if I mess this up—”
“Trust me, you won’t,” Ni-ki interrupted, a teasing glint in his eyes. “Just follow my instructions, and it’ll be amazing. Plus, I’ll be right here to help.”
“Okay, okay,” Heeseung relented, a hint of a smile creeping onto his face. “Let’s do this.”
Niki clapped his hands. “First, we need to set up the lights!”
As they rearranged the furniture, Heeseung bumped into Ni-ki, their bodies colliding.
“Oof!” Ni-ki laughed, looking up at him. “Careful! I’m not made of glass!”
“Yeah, but you’re definitely made of… something.” Heeseung smirked, ruffling Ni-ki’s hair playfully.
“What does that even mean?”
“Cute stuff. Fragile cute stuff.” Heeseung winked.
Niki rolled his eyes, but a smile tugged at his lips. “Alright, let’s get started before I lose my courage.”
“Okay, makeup master, what’s first?”
“First, we need to prime my face. Grab that tube over there.”
Heeseung squinted at the array of products spread across the table. “This one?”
“Yep! Now, just squeeze a bit and apply it to my face.”
“Like this?” Heeseung squeezed too much, the thick cream oozing out.
“Whoa, not that much! You’re trying to prime, not paint a wall!” Ni-ki giggled, trying to catch the excess with his fingers.
“Hey, I’m just following orders!”
“Alright, Mr. Tattoo Artist, just dab it on my cheeks. Gentle!”
Heeseung leaned in, his brow furrowing in concentration. He touched Ni-ki’s face lightly, the coolness of the primer sending a shiver down Ni-ki’s spine.
“Am I doing it right?”
Niki nodded, biting his lip to suppress his laughter. “Perfect! Just don’t poke my eye out, please.”
“Got it.” Heeseung chuckled, the tension easing as he began to enjoy the process.
“Next is foundation. Can you find it?”
“Foundation… foundation…” Heeseung muttered under his breath, scanning the products again. “This one?”
“Close! That’s setting powder. Foundation’s the liquid one.”
“Right, right. Liquid. This?” Heeseung held up a bottle with a skeptical look.
“Bingo! Now, apply it with that sponge.”
Heeseung squeezed a bit onto the sponge and pressed it against Ni-ki’s skin.
“Wow, you’re really getting the hang of this!”
“Don’t sound so surprised,” Heeseung shot back, his concentration unwavering.
“Just saying, you’re doing great for a tattoo artist turned makeup guru.”
“Yeah, yeah. Let’s not make this a thing.”
“Too late! You’re officially a beauty influencer now.”
Heeseung rolled his eyes, but there was a smirk on his lips. “I’ll stick to tattoos, thanks.”
“Okay, moving on! Next is concealer. I need you to cover these dark circles.” Ni-ki pointed to the bags under his eyes.
Heeseung held up the concealer, examining it like an ancient artifact. “How do I even use this?”
“Just swipe it under my eyes and blend it out.”
“Right, blending. I can do that.”
Heeseung applied the concealer, his brows furrowed in determination.
“Looks good! Now, let’s do some contouring.”
“Contouring? That sounds intense.”
“Not really! Just follow the lines I draw. Here, take this brush.”
Heeseung took the brush, his eyes darting between Ni-ki’s face and the product. “You’re sure I won’t ruin your face, right?”
“Trust me, I’ve seen worse.”
“Okay. Here goes nothing.” Heeseung swiped the brush along Ni-ki’s cheekbone, creating a shadow.
“Whoa! You’re a natural!” Ni-ki laughed, his eyes lighting up.
“Yeah, but it looks like I just gave you a black eye,” Heeseung said, frowning at his handiwork.
“No way! You’ve got to blend it out more.”
“Blend, blend, blend…” Heeseung repeated, furiously moving the brush. “Like this?”
“Perfect! Now, the nose — just a bit down the sides.”
“Wow, you’re really specific about this!” Heeseung chuckled.
“Of course! You want me to look flawless, right?”
“Flawless? I don’t know about that.” Heeseung teased, a sly grin on his face.
“Hey!” Ni-ki feigned shock, clutching his chest dramatically. “I thought we were in this together!”
“Fine, fine! Flawless it is.” Heeseung finished up, stepping back to admire his work.
“Okay, let’s move on to the eyes. Grab the eyeshadow palette.”
“Palette… which one is that?”
“Ugh, the colorful one! You can’t miss it!”
“Ah, right. This one.” Heeseung held it up triumphantly.
“Now, pick a color that matches my outfit.”
Heeseung squinted at the rainbow of hues. “How about this bright pink?”
“Too much! Maybe the soft peach?”
“Alright, peach it is.” Heeseung dipped the brush into the color, his tongue peeking out as he concentrated.
“Just sweep it across my eyelid.”
Heeseung applied it carefully, a frown of concentration on his face. “This feels like painting, but way more stressful.”
“Just focus! You’re doing amazing!”
“Thanks for the vote of confidence.”
“Now, let’s add a bit of shimmer.”
Heeseung grabbed a sparkly shade and blinked at Ni-ki. “Shimmer? Is that what it’s called?”
“Yup! Just a dab in the center of my eyelid for that pop!”
Heeseung added the shimmer, his eyes widening as he realized how much fun he was having. “This is actually kinda cool!”
“Right?” Ni-ki grinned, leaning closer. “Now, let’s add eyeliner. Here’s the liquid one.”
“Liquid? You mean I could spill this all over?”
“No spilling! Just draw a line along my lash line. It doesn’t have to be perfect.”
“Easier said than done,” Heeseung muttered, carefully applying the eyeliner. “This is terrifying.”
“Just don’t stab me, please!”
Heeseung held his breath, his hand steadying as he drew the line. “There! Done!”
“Wow, that looks amazing! Now, let’s do mascara.”
“Do I have to?”
“Yes! It’ll make my eyes pop!”
“Fine. But if I poke your eye out, I’m blaming you.”
“Fair enough.” Ni-ki chuckled. “Just wiggle the wand at the base of my lashes and pull up.”
Heeseung followed the instructions, his brow furrowed in concentration. “This is so weird. I feel like I’m doing surgery.”
“Makeup is art, my love.”
“More like a horror show.”
“Hey!”
“Just kidding!”
“Alright, alright. Next is blush!”
“Blush? Is that the pink stuff?”
“Exactly! Just a light sweep on the apples of my cheeks.”
“Apples? Where are the apples?”
“Right here!” Ni-ki pointed, laughing at Heeseung’s confused expression.
Heeseung swirled the brush, applying the blush cautiously. “How’s that?”
“Perfect!” Ni-ki beamed. “Now, the final touch — lips! Grab that lipstick.”
“Lipstick? What color?”
“Red. It’s classic.”
“Red? That’s bold.”
“Just do it!”
Heeseung rolled his eyes but couldn’t help the smile creeping onto his face. “Alright, red it is.”
As Heeseung applied the lipstick, Ni-ki leaned in closer, his breath hitching slightly.
“Hey, you’re getting it everywhere!” Ni-ki laughed, trying to hold still.
“Shush! It’s a delicate process!”
“Delicate? You’re a storm!”
Heeseung chuckled, finishing the application and stepping back to admire his — or rather, their — work. “Done!”
Niki turned to the camera, his eyes sparkling with mischief. “Well, what do you think, everyone? Beauty guru or disaster artist?”
Heeseung crossed his arms, a proud grin on his face. “I think I’m ready to open my own beauty salon.”
“Yeah, right. Only if you promise to do my makeup every day.”
“Deal!”
“Alright, let’s wrap this up! Thanks for watching, everyone! Don’t forget to subscribe!”
Heeseung leaned in, kissing Ni-ki’s cheek, smudging the lipstick. “And remember, beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Or in this case, the boyfriend.”
Niki laughed, wiping the lipstick stain with a playful glare. “You might need a little more practice, babe.”
“Practice makes perfect. Just like in tattooing!”
“True! But maybe stick to tattoos for now?”
“Only if you promise to keep being my canvas.”
“Always.”
As they finished up, Ni-ki felt a warm glow in his chest.
“Hey, you know what?”
“What?”
“I think we make a pretty good team.”
“Yeah, we do. Just don’t expect me to do this every day.”
“Deal.”
With laughter still echoing through the room, they shared a moment of quiet, the chaos of makeup and beauty challenges fading into the background.
In that cozy space, filled with love and laughter, Ni-ki realized this was what family felt like — messy, imperfect, and utterly perfect at the same time.
