It was a quiet afternoon when Ni-ki, along with his six friends, found themselves in a small, cozy town during their long-awaited vacation. They had decided to leave behind the usual hustle and bustle of the city for a few days of peace and simplicity, hoping to unwind and enjoy a rare break. The town, nestled between rolling hills and quiet streets, was the perfect place for just that.
As the seven of them explored the town, taking in the charming atmosphere, they stumbled upon a little café tucked away on the corner of a cobblestone street. The warm scent of freshly brewed coffee and pastries filled the air, inviting them in.
The group settled into a corner booth, the chatter and laughter blending with the soft music playing in the background. Ni-ki, being the youngest but often the most energetic, had already started teasing Heeseung about his inability to choose a simple drink. The older boy was contemplating a complicated coffee order, as always, while the others watched in amusement.
"You really can't just get a regular coffee, can you?" Ni-ki teased, leaning back in his seat with a grin.
Heeseung rolled his eyes. "I like variety, okay? Besides, it’s not like you’re any better with your weird orders."
Jake laughed from across the table. "Seriously, Heeseung, just get the regular. You're making it too complicated."
The conversation flowed effortlessly, with Sunghoon adding his occasional dry comments and Sunoo laughing at the smallest of things. Jungwon, as the leader, kept the peace, smiling quietly as he enjoyed his hot chocolate. But it was Ni-ki’s carefree energy that kept everyone laughing and engaged, and his playful charm made it hard to resist.
As the group sipped their drinks, an impromptu game of "Truth or Dare" broke out, a tradition whenever they had a moment of downtime. Ni-ki, of course, was the one to initiate it, picking on Sunghoon first.
"Truth or dare, Sunghoon?" Ni-ki asked, his eyes gleaming with mischief.
Sunghoon, who had a bit of a reputation for avoiding dares, hesitated but finally muttered, "Dare."
"Alright," Ni-ki said, leaning in closer. "I dare you to sing in the middle of the café."
There was a moment of silence before Sunghoon, to everyone’s surprise, stood up without hesitation. He cleared his throat dramatically and then, with a smirk, began singing a soft ballad, his voice surprisingly smooth and calming. The café patrons looked up curiously, but most smiled and clapped after he finished, clearly entertained by the impromptu performance.
The others were roaring with laughter, and Ni-ki, never one to miss an opportunity, was leaning back with a proud grin. "See? It wasn’t so bad, right?"
After the dare, it was Jungwon’s turn to ask. "Ni-ki," he began, with a knowing smile, "Truth or dare?"
Ni-ki leaned forward, looking more amused than anything. "Dare."
Jungwon's eyes twinkled mischievously. "I dare you to give a heartfelt speech about why we’re all such amazing friends."
There was a moment of silence before Ni-ki stood up, dramatically adjusting his posture as if preparing for an Oscar speech. The others were holding their breath, waiting for whatever came next.
Ni-ki cleared his throat, his usual joking demeanor replaced with a rare sincerity. "Well, I could talk about how much we’ve all been through together, how we support each other no matter what. But if I’m being honest, what really makes this group special is that even in our messiest moments, there’s always laughter. And that’s what I love most about all of you—your ability to make everything better, even when things feel off."
The room fell quiet for a moment. The sincerity in Ni-ki's voice made the atmosphere feel more heartfelt than any of them had expected. It was rare to see him without a joke or playful remark, and hearing him speak so genuinely made the bond they shared feel even more real.
"Okay, now I’m emotional," Sunoo said, wiping at his eyes dramatically.
The group burst into laughter again, the warmth and familiarity of the moment settling over them. Ni-ki sat back down, his face flushed from the unexpected seriousness.
"You guys always know how to make everything feel like home," Ni-ki added with a grin, trying to regain his usual playful tone.
Later that evening, the seven of them made their way to the nearby beach, the golden hues of the sunset casting a peaceful glow over the water. The sound of the waves was soothing, and the air was crisp, making it the perfect moment to reflect on the day.
As they walked along the shore, Sunghoon brought up something that had been on his mind. "You know, we’ve been through a lot together. But we’ve never really talked about how much we appreciate each other—outside of all the chaos."
Ni-ki nodded, his usual playful energy now replaced with a soft, thoughtful demeanor. "Yeah. Sometimes, I forget how lucky we are to have each other."
The others nodded in agreement, and for a few moments, they walked in comfortable silence, just enjoying the peace they rarely had time to savor. It was moments like these that reminded them how deep their connection ran, not just as friends, but as a family.
As the sun dipped below the horizon, Ni-ki turned to his friends, the light catching in his eyes. "Thanks, guys," he said softly, a smile tugging at his lips. "For being the best part of everything."
And in that quiet moment, surrounded by the people who had become his closest companions, Ni-ki knew that this vacation, and the bond they shared, was something he would cherish forever.
