Y/n sat on her horse's saddle, holding the reins as they trotted along across the New Mexico dust. Her dress hung around her hiding her legs and boots as she wandered he landscape aimlessly. She'd come out to get away from all the suffocating ladies in Labelle, always and forever up in her business, but unfortunately, she wasn't on her own.

As the moment she took her horse from the stable, Whitey Winn jumped up from the sheriff's office wanting to come with her! And was not taking no for an answer.

Y/n sighed, hearing Whitey's horse following along behind her like a lost puppy.

Whitey had always followed Y/n around, and had done every since they where children. Ever since he was a tiny little boy he had adored her, wanted to be close to her, wanted to hold her in his arms and squeeze her to death!

Y/n, however, was less than enthusiastic. As a child she wanted nothing to do with smelly little whitey from down the road going to the extend to bribe him with candy just so he'd leave her alone.

This went on for literal years! It lessened as they got older, but in truth never fully went away.

Over time, Y/n did mellow to his clingy ways. She did love his sweet adoration and his utter devotion to her, even if she wouldn't let him know that. Often just pawning him off with a kiss whenever she wanted him to leave her be.

The issue was that now meant he follows her at every opportunity, to 'protect her' in hopes he'll get a kiss.

Whitey smiled to himself as he galloped his horse to catch up with her, sitting up straight in his saddle and adjusting his hat before calling to her. "Hey, Y/n! Ya wanna slow down? I'm gettin' a little behind 'ere." As he moved his horse back to her pace. "God damn, I can't believe it, just me and you out 'ere huh? Peaceful, Ain't it?"

Y/n hummed and didn't answer him.

Whitey didn't seem phased by her lack of response, he was used to it by now and simply shrugged continuing to ride at her pace as he held the reins loosely, his horse trotting along with her's. "'ow long ya plan on ridin' for? I've never seen ya go so far from town. Ya must 'ave somethin' on ya pretty Lil mind."

"Just riding 'til I feel like going home," Y/n answered dismissively,

Whitey frowned at her nonchalant response, he could practically hear the tone in her voice. He knew she was annoyed with him or at least irritated. He hated the way she never paid attention to him or ever showed any kind of affection his way. He wanted her to like him! Hell, he wanted her to love him. "Just ridin'? So ya don't 'ave a destination in mind? Caus' kinda seems like ya just goin' in a circle at this rate."

"That's the plan. Just wanna be somewhere else for a while." Y/n answered purposely going around in large circles and back on her self almost in an attempt to loose whitey somehow. So she could go where she intended.

Whitey nodded in acknowledgment, but he continued to follow her, determined to keep up. "Are ya tryin' to lose me?" he said matter-of-factly,

"Oh? Whatever would I be doing that?" Y/n asked sarcastically.

Whitey smirked a little, "Cut it out, Y/n. I can see right through ya." he said with a soft, yet firm demeanor. He leaned a little over in his saddle, keeping his balance as his horse continued to move in rhythm with hers.

"Maybe because your constantly up my ass." She glared.

Whitey raised his eyebrows at her comment, not completely surprised by her response, he'd heard it before, but it still stung a little. "'ey, I'm only tryin' to protect ya, ya know that. It ain't easy though with ya tryin' to shake me off like I'm a damn fly!" he sounded slightly frustrated as he called out to her.
