Part 27 (second half)

Once everyone returned to the station Boden cleared his throat. "Can I have your attention please. Everyone meet the new Assistant Deputy Commissioner Jack Potter."

"Thank you. Chief Boden. Okay I'll cut to the chase, I am here because Chief Boden is running for Deputy Commissioner, therefore for the rest of this shift Battalion 25 is out of service, Boden will be the Chief going out on calls, and any calls he goes to, I'll go to review him. The reason I am doing this is so when the Fire Commissioner asks for my opinion on who should be Deputy Commissioner, my decision is well informed." Potter said

Casey raises his hand. "With respect sir, how long will this last?"

"The rest of this shift, next shift I'll be going to Firehouse 24. That is all, dismissed." Potter said

"Hey Casey can I talk to you?" Mouch asked

"Yeah. What's up?" Casey replied.

"I know before I said that I was fine being Acting Truck Lieutenant until Kidd returns, but I thought about it last night and I realised that at least until my number is called I want to be on Squad." Mouch explained

"That's fine Mouch, listen I can get a relief Lieutenant for next shift." Casey said patting Mouch on his back

"Thanks Chief." Mouch said with a sigh

"Ambulance 61. Engine 51. Truck 81. Flat fire *location*"

"Well sir let's go." Boden said

Once 51 arrived Boden looked at the burning flat. "Okay Engine 51 get a hose line through the front door, Truck 81 search and rescue, we don't have long here 5 minutes let's go!"

"Halstead we need this place vented, start breaking the glass windows, Kylie, Damon and Chippy we're on search and rescue!" Mouch ordered

"Alright, Rafferty we're on the hose line, Ritter, Clarence back up Truck on the search!" Herrmann ordered

Then someone came up to Boden. "Hey there's two people in the house, I saw them go in 20 minutes ago, a mother and her teenage daughter."

"Truck 81 come in, we have confirmation that the homeowner and her daughter are inside. 2-2-6 to main requesting an additional Ambulance to my location."

"Copy that 2-2-6, Ambulance 102 en route"

"Fire department, call out!" 51 said

"This is Kylie, mother and daughter are trapped in a room, charlie-delta side, working on opening the door." Kylie said. "Okay I'm heading out with them now."

"Okay Truck 81 evacuate the house, 51 hose down the fire!" Boden ordered.

"Ritter, Clarence, let's get a second hose line!" Herrmann ordered

It took 10 minutes for engine to put the fire out. "Fires out Chief, it looks like someone accidentally lit a candle too close to the window sheets." Herrmann said. "Structure isn't safe though."

"The mother is going to live with her brother." Boden said patting Herrmann on the shoulder. "Okay let's head back."

Back at the station Kannell knocked on Casey's office door. "You wanted to see me Casey?"

"Yeah, next shift Mouch is returning to Squad 3, which is fine, but it means that when Captain Severide gets off of furlough you'll have to go back to only working on 1st shift."

"I understand Chief." Kannell said. "For what it's worth, it's been an honor to serve under you, old friend."

"Dismissed!" Casey said smiling
