Kylie looked around the app floor. "So with Mouch going back to Squad, we get another Lieutenant. Who do you think it is?"
Just then someone cleared their voice, and Kylie turned around to see a Ginger haired women, "that would be me, Lieutenant Ramona June, so according to my notes, Kylie Estevez, James Halstead, Jack Damon and Chippy who is covering for Sam Carver?"
"Correct." Kylie replied. "Do you need anything Lieutenant?"
"Could you please take me to Battalion Chief Casey's office." Ramona asked
"So that's everything you need to know about the going ons at 51." Casey said. "Any questions?"
"No Chief." Ramona replied
Just then Kannell knocked. "Hey Matt sorry to bother you, Captain Severide just texted me, he's coming back next shift, so I guess this is our last shift together."
"Well it was fun while it lasted old friend." Casey replied. "Could you send Brett this way please?"
A few minutes later Brett knocked on Casey's door. "You wanted to see me Chief?"
"Yeah Chief Robinson called. Next shift a doctor of her choice will join 61 for a ride along as part of your Ambulance Commander test, then the week after that is the written part immediately following that shift."
"Copy that Chief." Brett said with a smile
Just then Severide walked in. "Hey Chief you got a moment?" He asked
"Yeah what's up?" Casey replied
"According to CFD protocol I need a letter of recommendation from my current Battalion Chief, to take the Battalion Chiefs test." Severide explained. "That way I can be acting Battalion Chief when you're not here and when my dad's old Battalion opens up I can put my name in." Severide explained
"Why would your dad's old Battalion open up?" Casey asked.
"When Boden becomes Deputy Commissioner, the Deputy Chief position will be opened up, I'm guessing Riddle will want to get his bugle back, and if he does I would like to be considered for Battalion Chief of 22."
Casey smiled. "I'll have it ready by start of next shift."
"I'll see you then." Severide said
Just then Carver knocked. "Sorry Captain, Chief. Am I interrupting?"
"No you're not Carver what's up." Casey replied
"Doctor Charles cleared me for full duty starting next shift, I want to take it easy so could I not become 81s driver immediately?" Carver asked
"That can be arranged." Casey said. "Okay you two enjoy the fact that you're not on shift."
"Any calls?" Severide asked as Carver left
"No, no calls" Casey replied. "You and Kidd found a place to live?"
"We're moving back into the old apartment." Severide replied
"Remember when we were both lieutenants, now I'm Chief and you're a Captain on your way to becoming Chief." Casey said. "You both are dismissed."
"Ambulance 61. Truck 81. Battalion 25. person trapped. 1117 S. Rosemont Ave"
"Hey you wouldn't be able to bring me with you, I need to do some work on the apartment?" Severide asked
"Yeah sure." Casey said
"Squad 3. Ambulance 102. Possible drowning Chicago pier."
Once Ambulance 61, Truck 81 and Battalion 25 arrived they could see a kid trapped up a tree. "Okay 81 get the kid down." Casey said
"Kylie think you can get the aerial past the branches?" Lieutenant June asked
"Negative Lieutenant there's too many." Kylie replied
"Okay new plan. Halstead, Damon and Chippy get the extendable ladder!" June ordered
Once the ladder was in place Lieutenant June went up. "Hey there I'm Ramona. Would you like to come down?" The kid nodded. "Okay I've got you, I need you to climb onto the ladder." The kid did what Ramona said. "Okay now careful, you're going to turn around." The kid did that. "Okay now we're going to slowly climb down."
It took 30 seconds for Lieutenant June and the kid to get down. "Good job Lieutenant." Casey said picking up his radio. "Squad 3 report!"
"Chief. It's Kannell." Cruz voice came over the radio. "He's gone."
"Detail Attention!" Boden ordered, as the of the firefighters at 51 and Ambulance 102 stood at attention. "Present arms!"
Casey and the remaining members of Squad 3 carried Kannell's lifeless body through the saluting firefighters and Paramedics and into Ambulance 61 before joining the closing the doors and joining the others in the salutes. "Order arms!"
"Cruz What the hell happened?" Boden asked.
"Squad 3 and Ambulance 102 arrived on scene, we confirmed from a witness that a teenage had fallen in and hadn't surfaced. I ordered Mouch and Kannell to enter the ocean to search for the missing teenage, both were connected to a line, after about 3 minutes Mouch surface with the teenage, we gave Kannell two tugs which I explained ment stop searching, after a few seconds another two tugs. After he didn't surface I ordered Capp and Tony to pull him out. But when they did his mask was off. It must have been knocked off. We attempted CPR, but we couldn't bring him back." Cruz explained
"Okay I'm taking Squad 3 out of service, I want incident reports, on my desk by the end of shift!" Boden ordered
Time skip to end of the shift.
"You wanted to see me Chief?" Cruz said
Boden nodded. " IA has cleared you of any possible wrongdoing, and no action will be taken against you, what happened was a freak accident. Dismissed!"
"Chief I have to ask does it get easier, for an officer to lose a firefighter?" Cruz asked with a tear in his eye
"No it doesn't, if anything it gets harder." Boden sighed "good night Lieutenant Cruz."
"Good night Chief." Cruz replied
