They say when you love someone, you will move mountains, slay dragons, swim the deepest seas, climb the highest mountains, and do the impossible just to prove your love. But can love outlast life?
..........
"Why do I have a feeling that something has shifted? Are you two okay? I guess I need to call Major back. You two always make me feel awkward whenever you are in your own world." Richie shakes his head as he moves towards the door.
He saw Major talking to one of his police officers. Richie found her cute."Major, sorry to bother you both. I believe they are now ready to continue and hear what you have to say." Richie looks at the woman apologetically for interrupting them. The woman just smiled and nodded, excusing herself.
Major Billy just nodded and went back to his office, Richie trailing. Both girls stood up when Billy entered.
Billy gestured for them to sit back down. "I hope you both have come to a conclusion. May I know what it is? Time is not on our side!" Billy's face was so serious that if it weren't for the life-threatening situation, the other three would think that Billy was going through his menopausal stage.
Freen looked at Becky. Becky took a deep breath. "We will go through with this together. It is safer if we can look out for each other at all times." Becky's tone is decisive.
"I respect your decision, though I am hoping for a different answer. Either way, I know you will stick with each other as always." Billy sighs.
"So what will happen now, Major?" Richie asked.
"As of now, we are gathering evidence to make sure the criminal won't get away with his crimes. We're lucky that the resort's camera, where the two of you visited, captured Mike. The mountain trails also have cameras at the registration area that captured Mike. He is stalking you, Becky! Dealing with criminals, I know he is obsessed with you, and he will not let anyone take you away from him!"
Becky was scared not for her life but for Freen. She was willing to give up everything in a snap for Freen. The two stared at each other, lost in each other's eyes.
Richie cleared his throat, bringing back the two. "Do we have plans or traps to capture the mentally unstable?" Richie pointed the question to Billy.
Billy smirked at the way Richie acknowledged the suspect. "I am discussing a plan with my officers. I hope all of you will agree with me. One of my officers will be here any minute to discuss the details with all of you."
"Thank you, Major. I truly appreciate your help! I know it's not that easy to deal with us, but I am grateful for your patience." Freen was truly thankful to Billy, but she was keeping her distance. She knew there were hawk eyes on her, a lion ready to pounce given a reason. She remembered back on school days when Becky saw them holding hands because of a project that led the latter to seclude herself in her chamber.
Becky was as grateful as Freen; however, she couldn't help but get jealous, especially because Billy's unrequited love for Freen was clear as day. She knew Billy was a good man and very capable, making him a real threat as a rival.
"Are you okay, BB?" Freen asked sweetly while caressing Becky's hand underneath the table.
"I'm good!" Becky answered with a tight smile while enveloping Freen's hand on her lap.
Billy watched the two and, despite his denials, it hurt to see them together with such intense affection for one another. He touched his chest involuntarily to make the pain go away.
Richie was praying that somebody would save him from this very awkward situation. What a way to sit with a romantic drama. He felt joy when his prayers were heard as someone knocked on the door, and the pretty woman he'd seen earlier came in. A smile was plastered on his face.
