After hours

Chapter 9

They started building our house the day after Jacob called.

I was starting to look at nurseries on Pinterest to try and get ideas.

"Hey babe, we still don't have name ideas yet?" I said closing my computer.

"Hmm, I really like the name Scarlett. Like that patient."

"I love that name. It reminds me of Gone With the Wind. I was thinking, I also had a patient the other day and her name was Nikki. I really like that. Do you?"

"I think it sounds perfect."

"Yay! Scarlett and Nikki, if they're girls, i really like Malakai or Jasper for a boy." I tell him and kiss him lightly on the lips. "Also when are we going to tell you're mom we are engaged?" I asked hesitantly.

"That sounds perfect, and I don't even want to. I know she won't approve. In fact I know exactly what she'll say."

"Yeah, I do too." i sigh.

"Well, you remember how bad she was back in high school? Yeah she's like ten times worse now." I giggle at his exaggeration.

"Let's go to lunch. Why don't you call her, I'll go get ready."

I put in skinny jeans, which was a struggle getting them buttoned. My almost four month stomach would barley allow it. A grey tank top with a white open cardigan, adding a long necklace.

I leave my hair in its natural waves, and apply light makeup. I grab my Louboutin's, because you know even though I'm pregnant I still wear heels, and come back into the living room.

"Okay, I'm ready lets go."

"Well don't you look beautiful." he says kissing me.

"Why thank you," I say placing my hand on my stomach. I was getting so much bigger.

"Hello son," Angela says giving him a hug.

She didn't even acknowledge me. Jacob didn't let go of my hand as his mother smothered him in a hug.

We sit down and order, and she still hasn't said anything to me.

"Mom, we have news."

"Oh, do tell." She says, sounding really fake.

Jacob looks at me. "We're engaged." he said smiles and i smile too.

I could tell that was not the news she wanted to hear. "Well that's nice," is all she says. There's a long period of silence.

One of the babies starts kicking. I look at Jacob and put a hand over my stomach. He does the same, knowing exactly what it is.

Angela eyes us.

"One of the twins is kicking. Do you want to feel it?" She has a scowl on her face but nods and put her hand where mine was.

"Oh, wow." she says her facial expression softening.

"Have you found out the gender yet?" She asks pulling away and putting her scowl back on.

"No we do tomorrow actually."

"That's lovely," I think she was starting to come around to the idea that she was going to be a grandma. "How are your living arrangements?"

"We are actually building a house. We put it on rush so we can move in about five months."

"Oh, fantastic."

"See lunch wasn't that bad." I tell him after Angela leaves.

"I guess you were right."

"Hey let's go baby furniture shopping. We are going to have to do it sometime."

"Okay, as long as I'm with you I don't care."

We drive to this cute baby boutique. I think I went a little crazy but that's okay.

We got tons of stuff. It was even worse because we had to get two of everything.

"Hey, let's go drop the stuff off at your house and go see how the construction is going."

"Okay."

We drive to the new house and the walls were already up. They were about to start bricking.

"Oh my god it's huge!" I said excitedly.

"Haha. I knew you would love the floor plan."

When you first walk in there is a huge stair case in the entry way. You turn the corner and there is the living room with a big kitchen on the side.

To the right is the master bed room with a closet the size of a normal bedroom and the bathroom is attached.

Then, down the other hall there is a game room with an office attached and another bathroom.

We went upstairs, careful not to fall because there was no railing.

There was a long hallway with a Jack and Jill bedroom and bathroom in the middle. Then on the other side there was two more bedrooms and another small half bath.

"There's one more thing I want to show you." he said leading me down stairs.

Just past the the game room there was another door, I didn't notice.

He opened the door to reveal another stair case that was leading down. We walked down and there was a huge open room similar to a game room.

"It's going to be a ballet studio." I could feel the tears forming in my eyes.

Damn hormones.

"You remembered?"

"Of course I remembered. Ballet was all you talked about in high school. I figured our kids are going to need a ballet studio."

I smashed my lips onto his, tears rolling down my face. I can't believe he remembered.

"So you like it?" He asked wiping my tears.

"I love it."

"Good."

"I love you."

"I love you."

Today we find out the gender of the twins and i can't wait. After rounds it's almost time for my appointment and i head to the OB floor. As i get to the elevator Jacob is heading towards it.

"Hey i was just about to head up," i say and he leans down to kiss me.

"Me too," he smiles, "I have a heart transplant in a few minutes so we better go."

The doctor puts on the gel and i feel the butterflies in my stomach.

"It's a girl, two girls. Congratulations Dr. West," she says.

"Jake we're having girls," i cry and he smiles and squeezes my hand.

"Hopefully they will be just like you."
