Jacob is almost finished with chemo, thank god. I really hate having to go to work without him.

"Hey Evi, how is Jacob?" One of the nurses asks me.

"He's better. The chemo makes him really sick for the first few days, but hopefully he will be back to work soon."

"God, you are so lucky you got to marry him."

"Really, why?"

"He's so hot!"

When I don't say anything she awkwardly laughs and walked away. Work sucks without Jacob.

"Alyssa!" I hiss pulling her into an empty on call room.

"Jeez woman, what? I have rounds hurry up."

I pull the pregnancy test out of my coat pocket.

"I'm too scared to look. You do it."

She sighs and takes it from my hand.

"Oh my god. You're pregnant again!" she exclaims.

"Really?!"

"Yes! Were yall trying?"

"No, but we planned on having more kids."

"Well congrats. Put that in the trash. And let's go."

~

I collapse on the couch next to Jacob when I get home.

"Rough day at work?"

"Yes, when are you coming back to work?"

"I don't know. I have bad news." Oh god.

"What?"

"My cancer isn't gone. I have to go through ten more rounds of chemo."

"I'm so sorry." I could feel the tears coming.

"Don't cry. It's going to be okay."

He holds me close and I cry into his chest.

"Hey, do you remember when I was pregnant and cried all of the time?"

"Yeah?" I give him a half smile wiping my tears.

"You're pregnant?"

"Yeah."

"We're going to have another baby?"

I nod my head. He picks me and spins me around in excitement. With a big grin on his face he kisses me.

"I love you and all of our children."

Now it was both of us in sickness. Jacob threw up after each round of chemo and I threw up for about a month into my pregnancy.

I have my first sonogram today and Jacob insists on  coming with me. We put the twins in their stroller and head up to the hospital.

"Hey Jacobs back!"

"It's Jacob!"

"Awe look at the twins!"

Everyone stops what they were doing and crowds around us.

"How old are they?" an intern asks.

"Almost five months."

"They're getting so big."

"They're adorable!"

After getting around the crowd we make it to the room without anybody following us. We wanted to keep it a secret for a while, so we told Alyssa to meet us there.

She put the gel over my stomach and picked up a heartbeat immediately. He was so excited. I started crying again.

"I can't tell what the sex is, probably not for another month."

"I can't believe we are going to have three babies."

"I know," he says pecking my lips.

I wipe off that freezing gel and we headed home. Today was my day off.

"Should we tell your mom?"

"Probably. She'll be mad we've kept it from her this long."

Jacob calls and Angela came right away.

"Okay, what's the big news?" She asks sitting down in the couch.

"Evi is pregnant. A month actually."

"Already? Dear it's going to be hard you'll have three kids under two years old."

"We know that mom."

"So then why would you get her pregnant?"

"Oh my god, I thought you would be happy for us. You're going to have more grandkids."

"I suppose. I have to go, I have a hair appointment. Bye son."

"Ugh..Why is she so frustrating!" Jacob says as soon as she walked out the door.

"I don't know," I say weakly as he wraps his arms around me protectively.

"I'm sorry."

"You don't have to apologize."

~

Jacob was on top of me kissing me intently. My hands are in his hair as I pull him closer.

His phone starts ringing.

I try to turn my head to look but he doesn't let me. He obviously doesn't care, his lips never leave contact with mine.

His phone rings again.

"You have got to be kidding me!" His facial expression changes as he answered the phone.

"What was that?"

"That was the ER, it's my mom."

"Oh my god what happened?"

"They won't tell me anything. Just thy we need to get down there immediately." He pulls on his shirt.

"Okay I'll get dressed. Go get the twins in the car."

I fumble for my clothes. Wondering what happened to Angela.

We drive to the emergency room in silence.

"Are you Jacob West?" a young intern asks.

"Obviously! Where's my mom? What happened?"

"We are reluctant to inform you that Angela West has passed. She had a stroke, died instantly." He informs us.

"Jacob," he collapses backward on to me, his body racking with sobs. "I'm so sorry."

We sit there crying, holding each other in the middle of the emergency waiting room.
