After hours

Chapter 15

The girls are growing to fast. I want them to stay newborns. Scarlett and Nikki were trying to sit up on there own. They play with each other and laugh now. I hate going to work and having to leave them at the babysitter.

"Hey Tammy." I say coming through the door to her house. She keeps them at home are there are only five other kids. "How were my girls today?"

"They were great. I'm starting to put them down for a nap at the same time everyday and i think they are on a pretty good schedule."

"That's good. How long do they nap for?"

"About an hour and nine and another hour at four."

"Okay, I'll try to keep them on the same schedule. See you tomorrow." I put the girls in there car seats and went home.

Jacob and I leave work at the same time but use separate cars so one of us can get the girls and the other can start dinner at home.

"Hey babe," I say putting the girls down and kissing him.

"Hey."

"What's wrong?"

"It's nothing."

"What? You know you can tell me anything." He turned to face me.

"Just a hard day at work. That's all." He gave me a small smile and kissed my forehead, but I could tell that wasn't all that was bothering him.

I didn't want to pester him about it. He would tell me eventually.

Jacobs POV

How was I going to tell her this. I couldn't tell her. It would break her heart.

How do you tell your wife that you have cancer?

Evangelina's POV

Ugh. I want him to tell me he has been acting weird through out dinner. Why won't he just tell me?

"Hey Jacob, I know something is wrong with you. You have been acting weird. Will you please just tell me what's on your mind?"

"Evi.." he trails off. I looked at him confused."Okay, look I don't know how to tell you this, so I'm just going to say it." He shifted to face me. "I have cancer."

Oh my god. No. No. No.

"What?" I say tears brimming my eyes.

"Please don't cry." He says pulling me into a hug.

"What kind of cancer? Do you need surgery? Or chemo? What stage is it?"

"Shh, calm down. It's leukemia. No I won't need surgery, just chemo. It's only stage two."

"Stage two?!"

"Evi, it's okay. I don't plan on leaving anytime soon. Okay?" He grabs both sides of my face and looksme directly in the eyes.

He bends down and kissed my lips softly. He tried to pull away but I reached up to my tip toes and kissed him harder. All while silent tears were rolling down my face.

"It hurts me when you cry." He said wiping the tears from my face.

"I'm sorry. I just don't want to lose you."

"You're not going to lose me."

"I love you so much."

"I love you too."

He starts chemo right away. They had to hire a new temporary doctor to take his place at work and it sucked.

"God, replacement for hottie heart surgeon sucks!" Alyssa whisper yelled. We both look in Dr. Reynolds' direction.

He was hitting on a nurse.

"He's disgusting."

"Oh great, here he comes." We both put on fake smiles and pretend not to hate life when Jacobs not here.

"How you doin'?" He says to Alyssa giving her the smolder eyes.

There was an awkward silence that passes between us.

"Did you get that line from Friends? You know, Joey says that?" I finally ask.

Alyssa burst out laughing, and I join in.

"What! No!" He defends himself, and quickly walked away.

"He totally did. Haha!"

"I'm home." I call hanging my keys on the hook.

I walk back to our bedroom to find both of the girls on Jacobs chest, all asleep. I took a picture before laying down next to him.

"Hey, sorry I guess I fell asleep. How was your day." He says moving the twins so he could sit up.

"Horrible. The new doctor sucks. I'm just glad I get to come home to you."

"I wonder what's on about me on Doctors Inside?"

"Ughg, I don't even want to look."

He flips on the tv and he was right there was an article on him.

"The latest news on Doctors Inside. Dr. Jacob West has cancer? Is it true? There has been a temporary doctor at the hospital in his place."

There was a picture of me with the new doctor. How did they get that?

"His new wife Evangelina was spotted today working with the new doctor. Can we talk about there wedding for a second? Only close friends and family were invited to the ceremony, but the reception was huge."

They showed a picture of me and Jacob dancing.

"Just look how cute they are! And her dress is amazing! Even better they finally released pictures of their girls! Scarlett and Nikki West are now three months old and look just like their mother. They even had matching dresses with her at the wedding. A-D-O-R-A-B-L-E! Well that's all we have today see you next time on Doctors Inside!"

"Well that wasn't that bad, I guess."

"It still doesn't give them the right to pry on our personal lives."

"I know, everybody was talking about you at work."

"Who's the new doctor?"

"A young guy that hits on everybody. It's disgusting."

"Did he hit in you?"

"No, everybody knows I'm married to you."

"Ohh, so you're saying if nobody knew he would hit on you?"

"Why of course." I say in a mocking tone.

"I guess it's a good thing we're married then, huh?" He grabs my hand and we laid there with the twins asleep in the middle of us.
