After hours

Chapter 10

Today I had my seven month sonogram. Time is going by to fast.

Thankfully, Alyssa was out on OB servi today and she was in charge.

She put the gel on my stomach and rolled the transducer over it looking for the heart beats.

Immediately there were two strong heart beats coming through the speakers. There was a picture of them on the screen.

"There they are."

I craned my head to look up at it. There were tears in my eyes again.

Dammit! I was crying all of the time now. Jacob laughed at me. "Ugh, I cry all of the time." I said wiping my tears. "Stop laughing!"

"I'm sorry." he said wiping the gel off of my stomach. "You're just so cute."

"Oh whatever. I feel like a beached whale."

"You are beautiful, you know that." He kissed me on the forehead.

"Alright, let's go. I'm on your service today. Bye Alyssa."

"Bye. Don't have sex in the on call room! They installed cameras."

"Thanks for that tip," i laugh.

Today we have a heart transplant on a sixty- four year old woman.

"Hello, Mrs. Newman. Dr. Stevens is going to prep you for surgery and we will be on our way. Okay? And if you have any questions feel free to ask."

"I do have a question." She says. "All of the nurses talk about Dr. Stevens and Dr. West when I'm trying to sleep. Why is that?"

"Well, I'm not sure. It might be because we are engaged to be married. But if they are disrupting you I will surely fix that issue. We want you to be as comfortable as possible here at the Florida Hospital."

"Oh that won't be necessary. That's all. I'm ready to get a new heart."

I laugh as she she showed me pictures of her grandchildren on her Facebook page.

I assist Jacob on Mrs. Newman's heart transplant and it goes by smoothly.

Today was our day off so we headed home. Only we were stopped by just about everybody passing on the way.

"Im so tired all of the time." I say laying down next to him. I tangled my legs with his and put my head in his chest. Jacob put his hand on my stomach and I guess I fell asleep.

I wake up to Jacob moving under me.

"Sorry, I didn't mean to wake you. My dad is calling." He shows me the phone "I was gonna go in the other room."

"It's okay I need to wake up anyways."

"I'll be right back."

I collapse back down, not having the energy to move. I wonder what his dad wants.

"Sorry." he says coming back into the room.

"That's okay, what did he want?"

"He wants to meet you." He says hesitantly.

"Why? How does he even know me?"

"He said we are on Doctors inside." He turns on the tv.

"Doctors inside?"

Sure enough there were tons of pictures of us. There were some from work, some from the masquerade ball, and newer ones of me pregnant.

"Today we are taking about the newest scandal, Dr. Jacob West. He apparently is not Florida's most eligible bachelor anymore. He has last been seen with new fiancé Evangelina Stevens. The two have been friends since high school an anonymous source says. Evangelina is also seven months pregnant as seen in the picture above. Have the two eloped? By the look of their faces they are very happy together. And look at that ring! She is living every girls dream."

"Wow." I said in utter shock.

"I know?"

"Why are they so interested in us?"

"I honestly don't know. Anything to make money i guess. How would you feel about meeting my dad?"

"If it will make you happy." He smiles at me.

"Okay, I haven't visited him in jail. I guess there's a first for everything."

We pull up to the prison and I can tell he is reluctant to go in.

"We don't have to if you don't want to." I reassure him.

"No, I want to." He grabs my hand and we walk inside. After going through all of the security we wait for him in the visitors room.

"So, this is the lucky girl."

God he was creepy.

"Hi I'm Evi."

"I remember you. Jacob used to talk about you all of the time."

"Dad!" Jacob yelled. I laugh at his embarrassment.

"So, I see you are pregnant."

"Yes, twins. Twin girls."

"Well I'm happy for the both of you."

"Thank you."

"Jacob, I'm sorry. For everything that I did to you. Sitting in here has been hell, but it's really made me realize all of the horrible things I did."

"Well thanks. Dad that means a lot."

"That was nice of your dad."

"Yeah but that still doesn't make up for all of the things he did."

"I know but he made the first step into moving on. Now it's all you."

"Yeah I guess so. Do you want to go see the house? I think they are almost done."

"Yes! I'm so excited."

The house was just about finished. It was beautiful. When we got there they were laying the carpet, and placing the light fixtures. This is seriously my dream house. I couldn't have pictured it any other way. My life has been turned around.

I'm glad I am spending it with Jacob
