"Can we come in?" he asked as I stood rooted to the spot.
I knew that their presence could only mean one thing. Something bad must've happened.
I nodded and followed them into the kitchen. I sat opposite them at the table and glanced at Ethan as he sat beside me.
"Unfortunately we have some bad news." the policeman started.
"What's happened?" I asked nervously.
"We need to come in and speak to you." he insisted.
Ethan nodded and gestured for him to come in. I paced the lounge nervously as I waited to find out what was going on. I could feel Ethan's eyes on me as he watched me from the sofa.
"I believe you know Susan Keys?" he asked as he handed me a photograph.
I glanced down at it, as my stomach dropped.
"Yes she's my mother." I said quietly.
"What's she done?" I added.
"She hasn't done anything as far as we know." he replied.
I raised my eyebrow and waited for him to continue.
"Her body was discovered at ten pm." he said quietly.
"She's dead?!" I exclaimed.
"Yes, I am very sorry." he muttered.
"But....what...I don't understand..." I whispered.
It felt as if someone had pulled the carpet from under my feet. How could this have happened, we'd seen her earlier and she'd been fine. The room was spinning and I felt like I was going to be sick. I quickly perched on the sofa to prevent myself from fainting.
"I'm really very sorry." he said again.
"What happened to her?" Ethan piped up.
"We don't know yet, a post mortem will be carried out and then we'll let you know what happened." he stated.
I remained silent, I had no idea what to say or do. I heard Ethan thank the officer and escort him out.
"Are you okay?" he asked nervously as he walked back into the room.
"Yeah I'm fine." I sighed as I stood up and walked upstairs.
"Are you sure?" he called after me.
"Ethan I said I'm fine!" I snapped as I continued walking.
