Caleb's POV
I froze in shock as she said the words I'd been longing to hear. It didn't seem real, I couldn't help but wonder if I was dreaming. It felt to good to be true.
"What did you say?" I whispered.
I sighed in frustration as she didn't answer. I knew from her steady breathing that she'd fallen asleep. I would have to wait and speak to her in the morning. I smiled to myself and closed my eyes.
Emma's POV
I bolted awake as I heard the phone ringing. I quickly jumped out of bed and answered it:
"Hello." I said groggily.
"Hey." I heard Ethan's voice.
"Ethan, are you okay, you don't sound so good?" I asked worridly.
"I'm fine, just a bit low." he admitted.
"Don't be like that." I said, feeling slightly sorry for him.
"I miss you so much." he whispered.
"I miss you too." I sighed.
"How's Georgia?" he asked.
"She was fine last night, I'll be going back to the hospital again later." I told him.
"Tell her that I love her." he said sadly.
"I have something to tell you." I said quietly.
"What?" he asked.
"I met my Dad and he told me that I have an older sister." I told him.
"God, your family are full of surprises." he stated.
"Yep." I sighed.
"Are you okay about it?" he asked.
"Yeah I guess so." I replied quietly.
I felt tears flow down my cheeks as I listened to Ethan's sad voice. He would never admit that he was struggling but there was an edge to his voice that hadn't been there before. I felt so sorry for him.
"I will get you out Ethan." I told him.
"There's nothing you can do." he pointed out.
"I love you." I whispered.
"I love you too baby." he said before quickly hanging up.
I quickly wiped my eyes and made my way downstairs. I had to do something to fix things.
Caleb's POV
I sat up in bed and frowned as I realised that Emma was no longer beside me. I quickly pulled on a shirt and padded downstairs.
I frowned at Emma as I saw her sitting at the dining table with a mountain of papers.
"What on earth are you doing?" I asked her.
"I'm on a mission, you can help if you want." she stated.
"With what?" I said as I picked up some of the paperwork and glanced at it.
"I'm going to clear Ethan's name." she told me.
"Isn't that the police's job?" I frowned.
"They seem to have given up, I refuse too." she said stubbornly."Will you help me?" she asked.
I stared at her for a moment, I knew that it was a waste of time, we weren't going to be able to find out anything that the police hadn't already thought of.
"Are you sure Ethan didn't make a mistake?" I said quietly.
Her head snapped up and she glared at me.
"You know how paranoid he is about things, he always double checks things so I don't think he would have overdosed her. He's obviously been framed and I'm determined to free him." she explained.
"Please help me." she added.
"Fine." I sighed.
I just couldn't say no to her. I watched closely as I waited to see if she would mention what had happened between us last night. We needed to talk about it, I had to know how she felt.
"Emma, about last night..." I started tentatively.
"What about it?" she interrupted.
"You kissed me and said that...you love me." I told her.
"Did I?" she shrugged.
"Yeah you did." I said quietly as I felt my stomach drop.
"It must have been because I was upset." she shrugged.
"No it was more than that....I can see how I make you feel." I told her.
"Oh really and how is that?" she asked sarcastically.
"Nervous and uncomfortable because you are trying to fight how you feel about me." I stated.
"That's not true." she insisted.
"Stop denying it!" I snapped in frustration.
Why did she have to be like this, couldn't she just stop torturing me and admit how she felt so that we can be together.
"I'm busy trying to get my husband out of jail." she snapped back.
I sighed in defeat, I couldn't keep hitting my head against a brick wall. I'd just have to hope that she eventually figured out how she felt.
I watched her as she leafed through the paperwork, a frown present on her pretty features.
"Maybe you should start by writing a list of everyone that has a motive and then retrace her steps." I suggested.
Emma's POV
I sighed in relief as he finally dropped the subject. I needed to focus on Ethan right now, not on what I did or didn't feel for Caleb.
"That's a good idea." I agreed.
"I think Andrew definitely has a motive." he said.
"Yeah, maybe he found out that Mum was in touch with me and Stuart again." I said as I added him to the list.
"I guess I should also put Dad on there because he has a motive." I said quietly.
"What's his motive?" he frowned.
"The fact that he still loves my mother and she broke his heart." I explained.
He nodded slowly.
"You know we should also..." he started but quickly trailed off.
"We should what?" I questioned.
"Stuart should be a suspect too." he mumbled.
"Stuart wouldn't hurt her!" I exclaimed quickly.
"I'm just saying that he does have a temper." he said gently.
"So do you, but that doesn't mean I'm putting you on the list!" I protested.
He shrugged and looked away from me.
"Stuart wouldn't do that." I said quietly.
"Okay." he said quietly.
"He just wouldn't." I whispered to myself over and over.
