Shock to the System
A few minutes after Yaz woke up, the group continued to smile at her, relief washing over all of them, especially Patrick.
"How you feeling?" Patrick asked.
"Like I got punched in the stomach by an angry porcupine. So... better." Yaz groaned as Patrick placed a hand on her shoulder. He turned to the Darius who nodded.
"Okay guys. Let's pack it up. Head for the boat." Darius said.
"What about the Scorpios?" Sammy asked.
"We just can't risk it." Darius said. "We might not get another chance."
The group nodded and split up while Patrick held Yaz's hand and helped her stand.
"I'm sorry." Patrick said causing the girl to look at him. "I'm so sorry. What I said earlier... god I'm such and idiot. I'm so sorry."
Well..." Yaz said smiling. "You more than made up for it."
She suddenly surprised Patrick with a tight hug.
"Thanks for saving me." Yaz whispered causing Patrick to return the hug. Suddenly, Yaz began to fall prompt Patrick to hold her up.
"Yaz?" Patrick asked.
"Sorry. Still having trouble standing upright." Yaz said as Patrick held her up.
"What were you trying to say before?" Patrick asked causing Yaz's eyes to go wide before blushing wildly.
"Oh... well uhm..." Yaz stuttered before spotting the flower that fell on the ground. Patrick knelt down and picked it up causing Yaz's blush to deepen. "Patrick... I've felt this way about you for... a while. Like... ever since you told me about your leg. Since you trusted me to comfort you about your dad, your sister..."
She looked down taking in a deep breath.
"Patrick... I like you. Like... like a lot. A lot a lot." Yaz said flustered as Patrick's eyes went wide. "Like... like a lot more than a friend. And... if you don't feel the same... I couldn't keep them hidden anymore..."
She looked back up at her friend waiting for his response but heard none. Instead, he just stared at her in shock.
"An answer would be appreciated." Yaz whispered.
"Yes." Patrick said causing Yaz to look up at him.
"Really?" Yaz asked with a smile.
"I... I've felt the same way." Patrick admitted. "I honestly just didn't realize it until... well, until right now."
The two just stared, getting lost in each others eyes once again. Only now, they didn't try to fight their feelings.
"So... would you, like to be my boyfriend?" Yaz asked causing Patrick to smile.
"Sure..." Patrick said said prompting Yaz to smile back and to embrace her friend. Patrick hugged her back only for her legs to once again fail her. He held her up and the two stared at each other.
"Ben!?" Brooklyn's voice suddenly yelled gaining their attention. They turned to see the others, minus Ben in the jungle.
"Where's Ben?" Patrick asked helping Yaz walk.
