The Final Test
Inside the compound, Patrick and Yaz sat on the table sitting across from each other, laughing and eating breakfast. The past day, Patrick has been much more active. Yaz even made him do some stretches.
"So... I got to ask... Kenji's Dad. Do we..." Yaz questioned.
"No." Patrick answered, not even needing to hear the rest. "I mean, he seems cool, but he hired my dad. Even called him a friend, despite knowing what he did..."
"I get it." Yaz whispered, sensing her boyfriend's distress. Suddenly, Kenji entered the room with Brooklyn at his side.
"Hey fellow lovebirds." Brooklyn said as the couple sat with them.
"Hey Kenji. Brook." Patrick greeted with a smile.
"Hey, get this, my dad wants me to help set up the meeting with the investors." Kenji exclaimed proudly.
"That's great man!" Patrick said. "I'm happy for you."
"And... I was thinking that when I'm done..." Kenji said causing Brooklyn tilted her head. "I was thinking that, the four of us could have, like a double date, or something?"
"Kenji, that sounds amazing!" Brooklyn said.
"As long as we get menu choice." Yaz said holding Patrick's hand.
"Deal!" Kenji exclaimed standing up. "I've got to set up the party, ill be back here by sundown!"
Kenji exited the room in a happy mood. He walked up the stairs towards the roof. Almost as soon as he entered the roof, he bumped into someone, stumbling back. Once he regained his composure he looked up to see Ray Palmer standing over him.
"Mr. Palmer?" Kenji said. However, the man simply offered him a hand. Kenji stared at it in shock before smacking it away.
"You're welcome." Palmer said.
"What are you doing out here?" Kenji questioned standing up.
"Danny told me to help you prepare." Ray explained nonchalantly.
"Cool. Just stay out of my way." Kenji said, surprised when Ray simply shrugged.
"You're the boss kid." Ray remarked, almost lightheartedly.
Meanwhile, Patrick, Yaz and Sammy were preparing for the double date. Patrick had gathered an array of blue flowers and bundled them in a vase and set it on the table.
"I'll cook." Patrick said shocking Yaz and Sammy.
"You know how to cook?" Sammy asked.
"Yeah." Patrick said. "Y'know. It's hard to believe that after everything... this is only our first date."
"Tell me about it." Yaz remarked wrapping her arms around his waist. "And I'll enjoy every minute we have."
Meanwhile, on the roof, Kenji and Ray worked on the decorations, Kenji occasionally shooting glares at the man.
"The girl with Patrick...Yaz, right?" Ray suddenly said. Kenji nodded slowly. "She good for him?"
Kenji looked at him confused, taking a minute before answering.
"Yeah. They're good together." Kenji said causing Ray to nod.
