Rose Weasley
After they were dismissed from class, Rose pulled Scorpius out of the classroom. She dragged him along to another abandoned classroom. She pushed him inside and shut the door. "Talk," she demanded.
"There's not much to talk about," Scorpius muttered, running his hand through his long blonde hair.
Rose rolled her eyes. "Sure there is. Tell me where on earth you've been, why you aren't eating breakfast, and why you look so bloody awful!" she almost screamed the last bit.
Scorpius looked frustrated. "Maybe I'm just not hungry! Or I like to spend time by myself. Is that a crime?" he yelled back at her.
Rose was irritated now. "God, Scorpius you're so bloody selfish! Why won't you let other people help you?"
"Who says I need help? And you're one to talk! You're so caught up in your own stupid feelings to care for anyone else!" It had turned into a full blown shouting match by this point.
Rose scoffed. "I'm selfish? Okay, I see how it is. I'm the one who's selfish. The person who tracked you down to see if you needed help, because you can barely take care of yourself!"
Scorpius let out a frustrated sigh. He started pacing the empty classroom, running his hand through his hair several times. He fidgeted with his clothes, pulling at the collar of his white button up, as if it were suffocating him. "I'm fine Rose," he finally whispered.
Rose smiled sadly, feeling pity on the poor creature. "I'm sorry Scorp, I just don't believe you." she whispered back to him.
Scorpius stopped pacing near an old desk and slammed his fists on it. The sound made Rose jump back in surprise. What on earth had gotten into him? she thought.
"Scorpius..." Rose whispered tentatively, slowing approaching him.
"Damn it Weasley!" he shouted turning around to face her. "Why can't you deal with your own bloody problems instead of getting mixed up in mine?"
His words stung. He had called her Weasley, which he hadn't done since they were little. And it hurt. She hated seeming him like this. She wanted to help him, needed to help him.
She plucked up her courage and approached him. "Scorpius.."
Scorpius faced her once more, he looked very angry. Scorpius dragged her by the arm and pushed her up against the wall. He placed his arms on either side of her small frame, leaning his head closer to her's. Rose could smell the faint stench of alcohol in his breathe.
"Scorpius..." she whispered, trying to talk to him, help him.
Scorpius had a foreign look in his eyes. Was it anger, confusion, hurt? Rose couldn't tell. His face was pale, making his gray eyes stand out more than they already did. His hair looked greasy, as if it hadn't been washed in ages. Normally Rose would find this unattractive, but Scorpius looked so vulnerable. So vulnerable. Rose began to feel butterflies being so close to him, she almost wished-
And then he did it. Something that felt entirely out of the blue and strange no dought. Something completely and utterly wonderful. He kissed her.
Rose was shocked at first, but soon she was completely immersed in the kiss. Even though his lips were chapped and there was a faint taste of alcohol on them, Rose didn't care. She had waited for this for so long, so long indeed.
Scorpius deepened the kiss, fully in control. Rose didn't mind. Scorpius's hand reached down and stroked her cheek. His hand felt warm on her face and she loved the tingling sensation his fingertips left on her cheek. Rose wrapped her hands around his neck, wishing to stay there forever. But then he pulled away.
There was something in his eyes, but Rose couldn't make it out. She decided to try asking him one last time. "What's wrong Scorpius?" she whispered, trying to look into his dark gray eyes.
"I don't know Rosie. I don't know," he whispered back. Then he was gone.
Scorpius Malfoy
Scorpius stormed back to the Ravenclaw tower. He quickly answered the door's stupid question and raced up to his room. He shut his door tight and locked it, shutting himself out from the world.
He no longer cared if he missed his classes or got bad grades. He'd rather just sit and wallow in his self pity. He didn't want to go anywhere or socialize with anyone. And the worst part was, he had no idea why.
Scorpius's mind related back to the kiss he's shared with Rose and he smiled. He hadn't planned it. One minute he was so frustrated with her, wanting her to leave him alone. The next minute, he was looking at her, her beautiful eyes looking at him and he just couldn't stop himself.
He missed Rose. He missed the times where they would study in the library late into the night, sharing ideas and helping each other with their assignments. Or how she would help him practice for Quidditch, even though she detested the sport. And how they could read together, not the same book, but they would sit in silence reading and enjoying each other's company. He missed that.
Now he was in a big mess that he didn't know how to get out of. Flora was a main problem. Scorpius was certain that she was hung up on him and that she thought there was something there, which there wasn't. Jealousy had just overcome him. And there was another thing, jealousy. Scorpius had a serious problem. Oh god, I'm so dramatic, he thought to himself.
Scorpius turned to look at his bed and saw that there was a letter on it. His owl Bitsy had probably dropped it off when he was with Rose. He crossed the room and picked up the piece of folded parchment. It was from his father. Uh oh, Scorpius thought.
He opened it and began to read.
Scorpius,
Hello. I hope your grades are good and you are improving more and more each day. The reason I'm writing is to inform you that your mother and I have split up.
As I'm sure you know, it has been a long time coming but we felt as if right now would be the best time, for you are almost 17 and shall soon be on your own. I'm quite sorry it has to be this way, but that is the way life works.
Your mother is currently living with her mother and will continue to live there until she finds a suitable home for herself. I myself have been staying at the mansion, as it does belong to my family. We will decide where you stay during the months when you are not at school, when you come to visit over the holidays.
Speaking of the holidays, it has been decided that you will spend Christmas Eve with me and Christmas Day at your mother's. You are welcome to stay at whoever's home you wish during the winter holiday, as well as spend sometime over at the Potter's, for I know you enjoy going over there.
I'm sorry it went down the way it did, although I'm sure you know why. Don't worry about all of this and just continue on your school work.
I shall see you over winter holiday.
Sincerely,
Draco Malfoy
Scorpius wasn't surprised at all by the news, he'd seen it coming. Though he did wish his father wasn't so formal in his letters. A simple 'I love you' was good enough. But of course, he was a Malfoy. 'Show little, to no affection' seemed to be there life motto. And the letter was just like that: cold, formal, and straight to the point.
Scorpius carelessly threw the letter aside and reached for his wand. "Accio firewhiskey," he said and a large bottle of whiskey came flying into his hands. He uncorked the bottle and took a long sip.
